For the stock engined mk8 1/4 mile record times. I'm still teetering on this one. 1) Its a bolt on mod. but 2) Its a Mustang Cobra intake. When you open hood, you think thats not STOCK in .1 seconds. So what say you?
 
dont know about performance first hand, but i hear the 1st gen intake flows very well. not much gain by switching.
appearance wise, it shouldn't be much trouble to remove that snake on top and replace with an understated lincoln star, making appear much more stock-ish.

unless i was going for boost, i would not.
fwiw, driller has mk8 intake as well. and thing is beastly.
 
Please re read my post. I'm not asking if its a good mod or not. I'm asking if it should be considered a stock mk8 engine or not with cobra intake on. There are certain rules for the fastest stock engined mk8 1/4 mile times.

what are the certain rules?
its still "stock engined." just not stock intake.
 
I'm going going "not stock" as well, but if your going to get that technical somebody better start laying out the rules. As far as I'm concerned the cobra intake on your car at this point in n/a form is more of an appearance mod.
 
Oh well in that case Id say it was a bolt on. But hey I think your making the rules anyway!

Nope not making the rules. Thats Drillers job. Thats why I am exactly here to get things str8. My thought on stock engine is no covers cracked for mods. But the cobra intake is still iffy on this. But on my 5.0's intake is considered a "bolt on"

i say its stock. it is the same as a cobra motor in so many ways and in a cobra its stock. adding it to a stock m8 doesnt increase hp or tq enough to show a difference . its more for looks then .
 
adding chrome valve covers or chrome anything still keeps it stock , whats the difference for the intake ? its just prettier also

To put it plan and simple if record times are made with the cobra intake on, peeps would say"but its got a cobra intake on it!!" Just clearing it up now thats all. Meaning I might get to put Cobra intake on sooner then thought. :D
 
Bolt on.

I would consider it more of a bolt on then a stroked high compression short block.
Or your headers :D
I think n/a is the only thing people get hung up on.
 
Not stock x1,000,000,000. You are modifying the intake in a way so it can't be a bolton mod.
 
FWIW I think it would be acceptable by some but not by others. Sanctioned racing venues are usually pretty anal about intake manifold changes.

My personal opinion is it would not be comparable to an otherwise typical 'bolt-on' Mark VIII but I would be curious what gains it did provide. It should do very well with the long tube headers.

I agree with you 100%. I myself don't think Cobra intake falls under "bolt-on" rules main reason of just the open hood look. But then I think hey its a bolt on! Its driving me nuts. LOL I think the N/A "stock bolt-on" engine rule should really mean no cracking of covers for mods. That means no pistons,cranks,cams,valves and head porting so everyone has an engine as was made by Ford.
 
I would be inclined to go by N.M.R.A rules as far as what is stock and what is not, but that is just me.
 
It's a stock bolt on to me as your not swapping Cams or opening the engine for Forged internals like a Cobra engine would have.

If I could find one cheap enough it would be on my 98' yesterday :cool:
