Detailing under the hood. PICS

I try to keep my '03 LS underhood area in perfect shape all of the time. It is difficult, especially if I do long drives, or have little, or no time to spend on cleaning for a week, or two. Once you get it cleaned, though, stay at it weekly and it will always look good. There's something about a super clean engine that just make the driver feel better about his, or her ride. Give us some before and after photos when you are completed.

You can buy GT cam covers already in that color off of ebay. ;)

Toss on some GT or GT500 COP covers to complete the look.
 
The Ford GT or GT500 covers only fit COP 4.6 DOHC's... his is a 96 won't work. You can get some nice Ford Racing covers though...

Ahh, good idea. I knew the COP covers had those available, but didn't know they had those for non-COP. I may have to get a set, kinda pricey. Shame the intake tube nearly completely covers the pass side. The drivers side stock plastic pc busted into two pcs when it threw the #6 plug so I was without one.
 
Ordered some goodies today. Sadly the spark plug covers will be a 4 week wait, or even more. At least they aren't needed to run it.

Edit: Posted the headers on accident, holding off on those for now.

Removed most of the front of the motors pulleys, brackets, and water pump. Cleaned the front of the engine as well as the fan and most everything in that area. Had to repaint some parts as I made the mistake of using some old paint from who knows when and come to find out some parts turned out a slightly different color. Have to clean most of the passenger side firewall area and along the back, but should go faster than it has. I have another busy work week and I have alot of other stuff going on, thats why its taking so long. Slow but sure. Heres a few pics.

yes that is true...... looks nice
the darker blue is what in the Fod oval .... and most of the others have been forgten.
 
looks great but i have one question, arent you scared???

im only 17 and as much as i would love to be able to take apart my engine and put it back togethor someday im so scared that i will loose a part, forget where somethign goes. or something along those lines.

how do you go a tthis problem? thanks

LOL. I've been at this for a while...not this project...cars.

I've done most everything but am not superman. After doing pretty in depth projects you begin to learn what your ability to remember how to put back together what you've taken apart. I happen to be good at it. If when taking something apart you see the need to document how it is, you do it. I did a near frame up resto on my TC and seldom had to look back for notes. Didn't loose anything that I didn't know exactly what was missing. Hood hinges were MIA for instance, no big deal. I accidently shot the old calipers away as I new I was getting new ones, didn't think of cores etc. Never stumped yet.

If you doubt your ability, take alot of notes and label every bolt. Or let the pros do it.

Also my brother has the identical car if I get confused on putting the vacuum harness back on or something. Not to mention this place can help too.
 
Looks nice, I like the covers! Looks like the water pump is next? When Chicken and I start putting my engine back in I may need to hit you up on some of those pictures...you too Mike!!
 
Got a little more done. Still have do the passenger side clean up and around back. Have to clean up the vacuum harness before reinstalling it. I have to wire the Mezeire water pump yet too. Not much left actually. Heres the lastest pics.

Thanks. Do yours? It took me 3months to do mine. LOL. Still not done.

I'm going to shave the intake tube nice and neat and paint it Blue also. The CAB will be satin black to blend with the firewall.

Seriously Rich you could handle this, nothing to complex at all. Getting the covers off is abit tight, but not that bad.

Yeah, thought of that. Before I started putting it back together it would have been easy to pull, but I decided to leave it natural. It needs to be cleaned up a little and for what ever reason in that one pic it looks yellowish, its not. Overall I think painting that a bright silver color wound have led me to painting alot of the dull aluminum pieces to...it would have never ended. I choose to just clean and brush all the aluminum to get just as clean as could.
 
If you want to go one more step with the oil fill you will need to grind a little off the spark plug cover as I did,
