Detailed my car again.

Well, the exterior anyways. Wet sanded most areas (not all, as I didn't have the time) then polished.

Products used:

wash:
Chemical Guy's Citrus Wash and Gloss (at wax stripping concentration)
CG sticky wheel gel
Swissvax wheel brush
Uber wash sponge

Clayed with Bilt Hamber soft clay, water as lube

Sanding:

3M imperial wet dry - 1500 and 2000 grit wet sand.
EDIT: sandpaper was soaked in water for 24 hours before sanding. I also used a 1L spray bottle filled with distilled water and a couple drops of car wash for lubrication.
Polishing:

Makita 9227C rotary
selection of wool and foam pads
1Z proline Pasta Intensiv
1Z proline Hoch Glanz Polish

LSP:
dodo Juice Lime Prime Lite
Dodo Juice Supernatural

Wheels also received Poorboy's Wheel sealant.
Tires/black trim/engine plastics were dressed with Surf City Beyond Black Tire pro.

Only have a few pictures, as I just finished a little bit ago. More pictures tomorrow after the second coat of wax :D

Hot damn that looks niiice! We're still dealing with pollen here in the ATL, I'll be lucky to even be able to wash my car within the next few weeks...

Omg same here. My car has been neon green instead of black lately, cuz of the pollen!@ im washing it tomorow though, hopefully the storms next week will knock off the pollen from the trees!

Came out pretty good. I like the reflection pics. You should post some previoud reflection shot and the new ones to show how the orange peel hides so much! How bad was she? Did you end up with lots of those poka dots? Glad it came out pretty good for ya! I love the results of mine!

Rick, how bad is it?

What I do is make sure I dry those first and do it in some shade. I may even mist it with cool water and wipe it again. Unless your talking about something different and it got so bad it needs correction its the fact that they dry so fast that kills them.
 
I need to use some of that wheel stuff. I had all four of mine off the car and spent about half an hour on them. I gave up becuase no matter how hard I tried I couldn't get all the grime off of them. They only look good from about 30 feet.

During wetsanding. you can see how bad the peel was in some spots. at the edges of the sanding areas you can see the polka dots from the high spots of the peel being sanded away:

Some afters again. It's really tough to capture reflections on a light colored car. It looks so much better in person. In the shot with the flood light, you can't really see it in the picture, but I can read the writing on the reflector inside the halogen housing.

Look at the difference in reflections. Pay special attention to the clarity in the side of the car. Sorry for posting so many pictures, but I'm impressed with the difference in reflections

That car did have some NASTY orange peal before... but it looks like you fixed that right up.
 
ok, I dont get it... Why did you wetsand it? dont that hurt the clearcoat? And why did you tape it off? Id LOVE to be able to this this, but I just dont understand what and why, lol!!

Do you proceed to polishing after the wetsand??
 
Does it hurt the clearcoat? Well, it does remove quite a bit more than the polishing. I stayed pretty tame with 2000 grit. You can still burn through pretty quick with that though if you are not careful. What I've heard is the clearcoat on a car is about the thickness of a piece of office paper (about 3.5 mils)

I taped off all the body lines and peaks, because the clearcoat is normally thinner in those spots. I wanted to make sure there was no way I was going to sand over those.

If you examine your paint closely, you will see it looks bumpy/wavy. That's commonly referred to as orange peel. It's what prevents good reflections on a vehicle. Keep in mind that wet sanding will prevent any aggressive polishing in the future. That's why I only knocked down most of it, and did not remove the orange peel completely.

After that the entire surface was polished with my makita rotary and wool pad with a moderate polish to remove the sanding scratches. Then followed that with a finishing polish/foam finishing pad to remove the hazing and holograms left by the wool pad.

I probably have 30+ hours into this detail. And I could've taken it further than I did. But I need my car tomorrow to pick up the girlfriend at the airport.
