Dash trim color?

Hey experienced Mark Viii parts guys...

Is the gray trim on the face of the dash on a first gen (you know, that rubber coated stuff) is it the same shade of gray if the interior is either gray or black?

Pictures don't do justice and maybe I'm seeing things but they don't look the same.

If not how many variations were there?

Two greys that I know of. One was a lighter color and then I think there was one that was a little darker but I don't know the exact colors. I have seen an opal grey interior with black trim and it looked good. I'm going to do mine in satin black with a satin clear coat. No gloss. Doing the rear ashtrays too.

I just saw a 95 in the jy with ivory interior :yuck: and the rubber coated trim is the same grey as the 93 (black interior) sitting across from it.

There were several variations of interior color and trim color..which makes it a major pain in the ass finding the door panels I need for my car..I've seen some 94 saddle tan panels with black trim and a tan upper door panel and upper dash, and there's mine that has a charcoal trim piece with the same color charcoal upper door panel above the trim along with the upper dash pad being charcoal instead of tan like the 94s..but it sure looks like the grey trim between the grey interior and black interior is the same.

The trim I saw in the opal grey interior could have been black and that's probably what I'm thinking about. The car was only test driven but I did remember the trim being darker than mine which is a charcoal color that matches all the way around, even on the lite graphite dash. I can't remember if I swapped out that piece or not. All of my interior except for the dash and steering wheel / column & console, came out of the black on black 94 but anyway, the black trim I saw could be what I'm thinking about.

Remember, sun/light fade/change paint colors. Not noticeable for years then you really pay attention to it & you are like; "WTF?!?"

Repaint the dash and the trim pieces to your own specifications. There's plenty of colors out there.

I would love to paint that "stripe" around the interior.... but don't want to paint my MINT passenger airbag I found for it. I mainly need the drivers side piece that covers the instrument cluster/info display, and has the heater vents. Also need a good headlight switch cover piece as well. But I'm pretty sure I have the darker of the two. I will take a pic and you guys tell me. Lol!
