Custom Exhaust

more like 13 - 15 engine hp.

is the v6 LSE a dealer added LSE package or factory? (on the order sheets the option is only available with V8 + sport)

I think they were special orders. I know they sent the V8 LSE's out, but if you didnt have the cash for the original I guess you could order a V6 instead
 I'm honestly not sure how it works, but alot of the 2000-2002 LSEs here are V6's which really sucks.

they are factory built. I have been having this arguement for a month or two with people but here is the link where Ken explains everything

But how does it affect the HP/Torque curve?

I found that some mods like exhaust/intake may not yield a lot of HP/Torque, but over the HP/Torque curve range yield great results. ( I thinks I said that right ) :D

in our quick tests (didn't spend as much time as I would have liked) we found:
- by going to 2.5" and removing the resonators we improved hp and torque through most of the rpm band
- by adding the x-pipe we improved the torque at the high rpms
- by going with 3" exhaust we actually lost some torque at the low end (looks like is needs some backpressure - worries me a little about headers)

How about 2 1/2 with headers..... maybe that would yield the best of both worlds... unless you want 3in for the SC reasons. Also header length would be factor too... shorty or full length

I know this is a different motor, but 3in on 302HO would not yeild as good performance as 2 1/2.... and actually was good up to hmmm HP I can not remeber?? 3in was only needed for Big blowers only..... Then there were those that just did it to do it.

I'm no mechanic but from what I've heard other guys say on here headers are not really a feasable option for the LS. I'm not 100% sure why.

for one - not sure how the heck you would work on them to get them on.... there doesn't appear to be any room to get a tool in there....

I got the exhaust done...I'll try and post some pics tomorrow. It just doesn't look right. I've gotta bring it back and have em readjust the tips...I think they hang down too much. The sound and performance are awesome. I haven't heard the magnaflow kit, but I can't imagine it being anything like this!

Did you watch the dyno pull from zexls? Does it sound similar to that? Also how loud is it inside and also how loud on the interstate? What was the final price?
Thanks and sorry for all the questions.

Yea I did Quik's setup,

- Mag X Pipe $80 shipped
- 40 Series Flowmasters $110 shipped
- Dual Double Rolled Stainless Tips $110 shipped
- Stainless Tubing and Labor $400!!!! I got hosed but oh well!

All in all $700. Very nice HP gain and it sounds incredible. I'm thinking about adjusting the tips, I'll post pics very soon...

Finally

Here is the finished product...for now. I'm still debating on cutting into the bumper, and if I get ground effects it will change things a bit, but for now this is what I've got. All in all cost me a litte over $700 but it gave me an a great HP gain an unbelievable sound.

Oh yea...and I got that SCT emblem stuck on the body right above 'LS' the pic above shows that. Now I'm not so sure it looks right. It makes it seem like a got a supercharger or something and it shines like chrome when the sun hits although the pics make it look pretty dull. What do you guys think...too cheesy?

Personally, I've never been one for trying to pass of a vehicle as something its not (like a 6cyl. Mustang w/Cobra emblems)... but, thats me.

If it works for you, and you like it... DO IT!

The exhaust looks good and that is a unique color for the LS. The SCT emblem I think is a personal preference for the location, if you like so be it. Its in a subtle area so its not like your putting it big for everyone to see. Nice set-up! (try to get rid of the orange - sidemarkers, turn signals- if you can.)
Can you post video of the exhaust on your car?

I don't follow...pass a vehicle as something it's not?

What exactly does having the SCT emblem imply about my car? Is it not that it just implies that I have it SCT tuned...which I do....

I slapped it on there while I was all hopped up on adrenaline after testing out the most aggressive tune Torrie gave me. It was mainly impulse, I sort of regret it now...but oh well. Like Midas said, its not like its jumping out at people, you sort of have to look for it.

Yes, I will be sure to post sound/video clips of the exhaust along with some track videos. I don't have a video camera other than the one on my digital camera so I can't garantee any exact dates, but it will happen...

I believe my tips were 10" long or something close to that. The exhaust shop can usually shorten them, that is what they had to do for mine. If you don't have a body kit or bumper cut outs the end result may hang down more than you'd like so make sure to look at what mine ended up like, as that is what you will most likely end up with if you don't cut the bumper or get ground effects.

sorry for the delay - I'm in Vegas this week......... (working)

yes - I have cats still - and have to pass annual inspections.

Well - my piping is considerably straighter than OE.

I wanted Flowmasters because I wanted a mean sound, and that's what a got, V8 rumbly at idle. I have heard both magnaflow, borla, and Mclaren but were all too quite for me. People who like the magnaflow would think my exhuast is too loud. I also removed the resonators as part of the install.

What i posted are the partnumbers off the work-order - so I am assuming they are internal Meineke part-numbers - not actual aftermarket numbers.

Here's the pics -

You coming to Carlisle????

I am always "personalizing" my cars. If you like it and it's not gaudy, go for it. My criteria on this stuff is if someone that is not a fanatic on the particular car you personalize, cannot tell it's not factory then it's okay. In other words, if it looks like something that could have come on it from the factory then it's okay. I mean really, that is what being car crazy is all about. I mean I do not care for most aftermarket wheels` but I am not about to "DIS" anybody that puts them on their car. To each there own. If you want to buy my ride or make the payments then you can dictate what I do to it. I'd be more than happy to make that arrangement with anyone. :)

Exactly what I told the guy at the exhaust shop. I told him I wanted it to look like the car came with the exhaust all ready on there. It was a challenge and I think he did the best he could do with the tips I provided - which may have been a mistake. Oh well...I can always change the tips...but I totally agree with ur stance on "personalizing".

I think when people see my SCT emblem on the side of my car they will think, "cool, an SCT LS, that must quick..." or something along those lines. Kinda of like you would see a GTP or SVT.

I agree, and it really wasn't meant as a flame to you StinkinlinkinLS -- just a misunderstanding... thought I read that it was signifying that the car was supercharged.

Of course, me being so new to this board I didn't know at the the time what SCT was!

Understood. I'm still not 100% as to what it means. I'm guessing its

SCT = Super Custom Tuning

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

my wife's V6

Hey...

This is my first post. Got my wife an 02 LS. It's only a V6, but what can i do? My question is this: Does it make any sense for me to be thinking about one of these new exhaust set ups for this car?? I wish it was a V8, but... it aint.

Thanks
