aftermarket is cheaper.
quality is of no object to most people. only price.
therefore, there is a :q:q:q:q ton of money on aftermarket.

Dealers use the same principle as the military, lowest quality from the lowest bidder. Why else would soooooo many of the parts attached to your car have stickers from Mexico, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Korea...CMON PEOPLE!

Believe what you want. 99% of the time oem stuff is better built. This is easily seen side by side when compared to aftermarket crap. aftermarkets also build as cheap as possible. Take a look at the dorman intake for the 4.6 2v compared to the oem one. Or the manifolds for chevy trucks compared to oem.



Aftermarket manufacturers are only required to build to the original specs. Oems will revise parts to fix a defect or improve something. This may not (and usually isn't) found in aftermarket parts.


for the record I was a ford dealer tech for 8 years. 6 months at nissan, and now about 2 years in an independant shop. I've seen both sides. If I have a choice I always go oem. The parts are just better.

I mean stuff like DLFs bushings compared to OEM, DLFs are way better, tubular control arms, stereo equipment, headlights, brake set-ups

OEM struts -vs- Beilstein
OEM brakes -vs- Willwood
OEM exhaust -vs- Borla
Etc etc

However, my statement is mainly aimed at US manufacturers, European cars for the most part are already as good as they can be

Seeing how I average maybe 3K per year, I use copper and did so in the 94 too. Had it for 5 years and put 19K on it and changed the plugs twice. Not that I needed to but as cheap as they are, why not? 764's for me and always will be.

I have changed mine once since I bought the car in Jan 2010. I put in 764's during the summer of this year. I might do it again in 2013, 2014....

764's were in it and all 8 were burning very good.

I agree with Steve and Jeremy. For the most part OEM is of better quality. Just look at Mark air shocks OEM vs Arnott. Or OEM/TRW vs Duralast.

Jeremys point was a Borla can is better than a stock can. True Forged makes a better wheel than Nissan. Willwood makes a better caliper than PBR/OEM. Centerforce makes a better clutch than what GM uses stock.

There are parts that are better and parts that are worse. What I have found is MOST of the time to get a part better than stock it also costs more than stock.


What most HP junkies know is a copper plug will spark easier thus work better in high performance applications even though they wont last as long. Kinda like a top fuel car. Yeah its WAY faster than any street car but it has to be rebuilt every other run.

Plugs are a 15 minute job if you take your time to enjoy your cigarette on Ford Modular cars. To me that 15 minutes once a year and $2 a plug for a couple HP and a small percentage of fuel increase and knowing I always have a fresh igniter is worth it to me vs spending $8 a plug and replacing them every 3 years.

Now I may be way off here but my theory is that since a copper plug sparks easier it will allow the COPs to last longer and that's a big savings in itself. I have no data to support this, its just a theory.

Oh give me a break! If we have AcDelco stuff in stock, then that's what you get, OEM. If its a job that we don't have for the day, like a waiter, then we call down street, and usually we go with whoever is cheaper, therefore, less the cost for the customer.
