Coolant crossover tube.. what a PITA!

Generally how hard are these to remove?

I was replacing mine on my totalled '93 last night, and I fought with it forever!!

I actually ended up getting my stud welder for bodywork out, and I welded some studs to it and used a slide hammer to get it out! And even that was not easy! Only half came out and I fought with the other half for about another half hour!

I think I fooled with this thing for atleast an hour. But finally the new one is in place!

Out of about 20 attempts at junkyards, ive only been able to remove 1 from a motor. they are a biatch.

They are a PITA. Usually there is some corrosion in there that glues the pipe to the block. I just take the bolts off and wiggle it while lifting. Has worked every time so far.

Its a reminder to use coolant and not just water.

And yes, I agree Bill, and if you just have to use water.... atleast get distilled water

I've found lots of them in the junkyard, but have only walked out with a handful of them....

There's a reason for that. They suck...

Lots of prying, jiggling, pulling, swearing, prying some more, passing some gas, jiggling some more, a bunch more swearing, and then finally it pops out.....

I think that is actually the exact chain of events in my case!

If I wasn't on a time constraint I would have also had you whip up a coolant plug for me....

After messing with plenty of these, I've found the easiest way to get them out of the heads is to carefully pry up against the sensor bosses with a screwdriver. Remove the sensors before doing so...this pic was taken just to show where to place the screwdriver.
