jeez - As we get older we think we need to 'educate' the retarded younger group... but as we think they need to hear our opinion, they plot to kill us in our sleep - hence the circle of life.

the purpose of the original post was to offer some simple common sense, not call out members for beating on their ride. There seems to be 2 types of posts on the site, the member that has has taken a stock LS an looks to either repair or do something different with their ride. the second type of post is the young inexperienced driver/owner that beats the car and then complains that it is not reliable or expensive to fix!!

Yes, anything mechanical does break all on it own, that's what engineering is supposed to minimize. We have all had the same issues with the LS, coils, degas, sway bar bushing and on and on.

Take the time to read what is being written and continue to enjoy the forum!!
 
idk..... i think parts for these cars are ridiculously expensive, and gas is decent at best, but the cornering and fun to drive is through the damn roof!!!!!!!!!!!!! I say play how you want, but be ready to fix what you break.
 
The truth is that most people don't learn by hearing common sense from those who are wiser. How did you come by this common sense? By screwing up and learning the hard way. The points made by the OP are right on. Yet, I still find myself stomping the gas pedal for the sheer joy of hearing the tires (tire) chirp.

Common sense? Well the LS "Lincoln Sport" Was designed to compete with the BMW 5 series with a lesser price tag. Not a sports car? Uh well what do you consider a sports car. Power? Doesn't have to be. This car has awesome handling and the boys at Ford did a good job with this platform. So to say its not a sports car is wrong.

"If you beat it, it will break"? What do you consider beating it. Do you think the MKS or MKT would break if you beat it? I wouldn't think anymore than an LS. Must of been so bad of a platform so they decided to put it in the Mustang.

To say its not a BMW M5 sports car is correct, but for 30k-40k it's all its ever gonna be.

The LS is many things, but it is NOT a sports car; for one thing, it has two doors too many, for another, it weighs too much. It has incredible handling for a car its size, and it will certainly out-handle faster cars, but if you think it's a sports car, try keeping up with a competently-driven Porsche or Miata on a drive like the Tail of the Dragon or around a road course. Luxury Sport Sedan, yes; Sports Car, not so much.

miatas probably handle well, but only fairies drive them.

Ditto. Now I know my LS is not durable, doesn't get good mileage, is expensive to operate, and is not a sports car. How could I have been so blind! :rolleyes:

I used to have a Maxima that came with a sticker on it that said 4DSC. If the Maxima can be a 4 door sports car then why can't the LS?
 
Wow, plenty of emotion about the original post!! The LS is so far from being a sports car that it's not even funny. It is a 4 door sedan with enough power to cruise all day long and has good handling manners. Thats it, nothing more.

Don't compare the LS to a BMW or Benz because it's not even close.

The MKS, MKT and MKX are far superior vehicles that handle better, more horsepower and better fit and finish. If you beat them, they wont break as fast as the LS, but will eventually break. I am more that qualified to make this statement because I work for Ford and have driven all of the above.

Relax, the original post was simply to educate the much younger members with less resources to spend to avoid breaking a car with known issues. Nothing more, nothing less.

It's just a Lincoln, some seem to think that they actually have something rare or unique. If it was such a huge hit with the buying customers, Ford would not have dropped it from their line up!!!
 
Of course - it's an enthusist site. To you, it's a sedan that you drive around in - to others, it's their platform to customize and enhance (in their own way). It's silly to think your opinion to 'educate' them is needed.

I wouldn't consider Motor Trend to be the ultimate source for automotive judgement. MT has had several car of the year awards go to less than stellar vehicles.
I get it that this is a web site for LS owners that enjoy their rides, I enjoy it as well. It's a great car to own when it's not broke, and even more fun to put it through its paces, but get real, it's just a Lincoln.
Try trading the LS in for a new car, or better yet, try selling it privately and see what kind of cash it is really worth.
The original post was not intended to piss off the overly sensitive LS owners that live and breathe for this car, but to offer simple, sometimes overlooked COMMON SENSE about LS ownership.
If the car was such a successfull seller, than they would still be producing it (Quik LS).

I get that you know have to throw more into the topic to seem to make your point, but you are coming off like the stereotypical, old, opinionated Lincoln driver (which I am as well) - 'educating' kids on what they shouldn't do to try to go faster... what's next - their loud stereos, funny paint jobs, silly wheels.....

What you call 'common sense' is simply your opinion - which is the start of a slippery slope of self-importance. You're entitled to your opinion - but make no mistake - it's simply your opinion.
