On a Gen 1 are the chrome trims on the front above the grille and lights and also the trim on the back above the rear lights, metal or plastic coated chrome?

They are metal, but new ones not well made. I got a new one and even though I got it trough a Ford dealer, it was not a Ford part. Really cheaply made.

i stripped mine of the chrome and painted black. much better!!

You saw the state of mine... all faded and corroded. Glad you snapped it up... and gave me... an excellent one! Now, the rest of my car looks like poop! Including my grille... i repainted it nice... looked awesome... looked at it today... the sun has made the paint all wrinkly and cracked! Some days, i just wanna smash it to pieces.

There is a company that can "chrome" plastic. They posted on here a while back. They even have a black chrome. The process is not called chroming though... cause its a powerdercoat type process. But looks like chrome!

Unity: Yeah, i remember the thread, but next time im just gonna respray with a different type paint. (not chrome effect enamel) Maybe even go body color. Can't be bothered at the moment though - got other projects going on.

Guys who paint harleys use thin layers of 'gold' and 'chrome' and then clear over it. Can't tell the difference between that and our 'chrome' on our grilles. Problem is I couldn't easily find it in a large enough sheet to do the grille. Maybe with further research someone could find a supplier with big enough of sheets. If you can find it, it wouldn't cost more than 20 bucks or so.

I wanted Geno to see about having polished stainless laser cut. Grille would need to be prepped so the surface on the spokes would be flat-faced but would look good I think. And durable to road debris. I never got a response from Geno.
