chrome molding

what is the easiest way to get rid,paint, fix the chrome molding that goes around the car (on the bumbers side of doors and back ) its allfaded and burnt looking

If you go on ebay there are sellers who sell 'belt trim' for Mark VIII's, rolls of chrome with 3m backed adhesive-they are usually 25 to 35$ shipped, 20 foot rolls, and it is easy to do. You carefully remove the faded chrome strips that are on the car and, cutting the replacement chrome strips alittle longer to tuck into the slots, you install the new chrome. As I recall I got 2 sets to do the front, sides and back, it has been a few years now.

Base models look so much less ugly if the chrome is actually in good condition...

to remove the old foam backed adhesive left after removing the old stuff is to get an eraser wheel and attach it to a cordless drill. takes it right off without damaging the paint. the new adhesive sticks much better then.
thats what the body shops do. hope that helps.

Also use 3M adhesion promoter before applying the new chrome AFTER properly cleaning off the old adhesive.

I just peeled the clear coat and chrome off of the strip, left the greyish belt on...looks ok about 10 yards away

I used that stuff called "goof off" to get the adhesive off the car. That with using my fingernail. Took about an hour or two to do the whole car but man what a difference. KK is right it was fugly with it rotted, and nice with it fixed.
