Hey maybe im just really paranois because i bought my 2001 ls couple days ago and that engine check light came on but car is running just fine. All fluids levels are fine except the cooling fan fluid its near min, could that be the problem. Or i have to go get it scanned?:(

Go get it scanned, some places like Autozone will do it for free I think.

Nevermind they don't hopefully i can't find a buddy who owns a shop. Weird thing is the car runs perfectly fine , som im guessing its a small problem. But I know i shouldn't ignore it.

Whats the most common reason engine light goes on. Do these engine lights typically go on and go away like some cars?

There are any number of reasons for the CEL to light; the only way to know why yours is lit is to get the codes read. Your LS, being a 1st Gen, is OBD-II, so you should be able to pick up an inexpensive OBD-II scanner to read the codes. I think the one I bought a few years ago to use on my Explorer was well under $100; if you don't have a shop locally that will pull the codes for you, this is a must-have...

Not if they're useless. If you haven't pulled them, how do you know if they're useless?

There's no such thing as a "useless" code!

It it were useless, there wouldn't be a code for it.
So get the code pulled and then you will know.

It could be something as simple an O2 sensor or the gas cap.

Okay imma get it scanned and hopefully it something small which i think it is because car runs just fine and i noticed nothing strange.:shifty:

Weird it went away..... i put some cooling fan fluid..... maybe that was it. O well its gone.... :D Do most of guys experience that when it goes on for a day or two then goes away...?

he's yanking your chain because you called it cooling fan fluid reservoir. No such thing as blinker fluid. LOL.

And just FYI the "check engine" light RARELY has anything to do with th engine. It's almost always something related to emissions. Gas cap, o2 sensors..or maybe a faulty coil...which actually IS related to the engine. So I take that back.

Funny how it says check ENGINE light but yet has nothing to do with the engine most of the time...lol

Soon they are going to start making the CEL an orange $$$ symbol. I think BMW already did.

Quit messing with the guy and just tell him about the horrible water-cooled muffler bearings these cars have. I swear I've had to replace mine at least once or twice a month.

 what you mean i have to replace the muffler?

Just go get the codes pulled, and quit letting these guys jerk you around. When you get the codes pulled, post them up and we will tell you what steps to take.

That's the one that is under the rear bumper, yea? I used to get kind of a hard sound, like the drill makes until I got it replaced at the dealer for $540. That thing is a pain in my azzholes.

It's not the muffler, there is like a motor under the rear bumper, it is connected to the muffler and makes a wind like a hurricane katrina inside the resonators and it increases the power of the car. I don't know how it is exactly called, but it's like a turbo and it's bearing go bad after some time. It only came on 01 and 02 V6 LSs. If you look under your car from the back you can see some of the connections.

I saw them when I was installing my LSE kit, it's definately a lot better than the turbo tips some people were trying to pass off, those things were complete junk. These actually create a vaccuum of sorts because the 00-02 LS created too much back pressure and the FoMoCo techs needed something to counterbalance it. No problems with my motor yet, hopefully never cause my car isn't under warranty anymore.
