changed oil filter cover now running ruff

After doing a bunch of searching o here I have decided to post for help. As title says I had to replace the oil filter cover ( PITA) on my 95 mark viii and now I am running really ruff. I have metered the coils, checked the plug wires all good. Wondering if I could have knocked something loose while changing part.
Any direction will help it is running rich too.
 
No replaced the whole pc plus gasket, cover was cracked at oil sensor but yes the adaptor cover

If you've got a camera phone (or camera /computer) snap us a few pics of your engine bay..

Clean the MAF with MAF cleaner. Comes in a grey can and made by CRC and is sold in Auto Zone. Remove it from the car and clean it good. Change plugs if you haven't done it already. Just try cheap Autolite 764's and gap them on 0.54. I don't think a simple oil filter adapter gasket swap would have knocked anything loose to make it run rough. It's coincidence most likely.

It also doesn't hurt to run a 1/2 to 3/4 tank of 93 octane with a bottle of STP fuel injector cleaner in it. Give it about 40 to 50 miles to notice any changes. I use it every 2 to 3 gas fillings and the idle is so smooth, it can barely be felt. My plugs are 764's and 2 years old. My plug wires are old and I'm right at 120K but it's very smooth at idle.

Unless you messed with something else, I don't know of anything you could have knocked loose under there to make it run rough.
 
Don't believe we messed with anything else, wasn't sure if wire harness that was down there might have had a sensor wire in it that could have been brittle and broke. I have not seen a check engine lite come up and feels like I'm running on six cylinders
 
mine was bucking awhile back....tried all the predictable culprits; plugs were dbl plats w/ 30k and looked fine; gapped right......changed to new Auto_lite 7sixty4 cops and SHAZAAM, fixed....ran smoother, bucking disappeared 99%...added a tune and bucking disappeared 110% :D
 
So finally got time to change plugs today,plugs were white. seems to have fixed stumble and rough running. But it still smells like its running rich, and before this when cold it ran little rough in morning till it warmed up, which in florida dosen't take long. I just got car 6 months ago as a project daily driver car has 187k on it. Were should I look next?

Run some seafoam thru it, change the fuel filter, air filter, clean MAF with MAF cleaner, do not clean throttle body

hmmm, that's kind of a loaded question:D
...if you're not running 93, start and continue; it's only about $5 more per tank.....other sources for running rough can be wires and/or coil packs; replacing the PCV is cheap/easy

You cant look at it as more $ per tank thou, because most everyone forgets the other relevant factor of (tanks per year) which if using 93 would be less than if using a lower octane
given the root of (everything else is in normal working order)
 
regrettably, if 93 is increasing my mpg, it's not obvious. But I think I've had a heavier right foot since getting the exhaust and the tune. My new project is gonna stay very stock; quiet, mellow, smooth...as a 90 miles/day daily driver Lincoln should be
 
Just a update, car started running rough again a few days later.I. went ahead and replaced thespark plug wires even though they tested fine, Screw testing wires with a multi meter, the car has not been this strong since I purchased it. God its fun to drive again!

Did you test their impedance or just for voltage?
 
Impedence only checked good but it may have had a intermintent short. Don't care now runns great
 
Now convert to coils and quit playing with wires .. glad its runnin better
 
switching to Coil On Plugs.(COPs)
2nd gens have them. seemed to be a ford standard after 96.

True, and they're kinda expensive depending on where you get them. I found a full set of OEM nib on eBay for $80
