Could someone supply me with the Mark VIII cam size and also the 98 cobra cam size. Just doing some research and can't find what I need. Thanks

I believe the stock Gen2 cams are .425 lift and around 252 duration, the only difference in the cobra grind is a couple of intake degree's, but dont quote me.

you are quoted and correct! (lol)

also, some people think that putting the "cobra cams" in a mark 8 will somehow majically make more power..when the cam timing difference is there due to the vast difference in the two platforms.

the cobra is a lightweight stick shift car with a differnet manifold, hence the difference cam timing specs..wheras a mark 8 is a heavy automatic car.

no peformance gain or a very little immeasurable gain for running cobra cams in a mark 8.

I'm posting this for future readers benifit... mostly.

You answered that question. I didn't think there was that big of difference in the cams. Now are the valves in the cobra head that much bigger or is the power built with intake, exhaust, timing?

96-98 cobra heads are the same as 96-98 mark 8 heads..
and I dont think the valves in the later years had a substantial size change..if any.

The "advertised" power numbers are just that....and IMHO are BS.
the outputs are mearsured at different points.. more than likely the intake is really where any major differences would be.

I think the mark 8's were underrated by the factory by default.

Remember if you are considering cams that most of the "street cams" for the 4.6DOHC Like Comp Cams ect are hardly better then stock, so allot of money for very little improvement.
I put in some out of production Isky cams for the original 4.6 Cobra, 272/278-278/282 , .275/275-285/285 I thought pretty mild. The specs said mild to moderate idle. The first time I started the engine I thought I had a full blown top fuel engine, the computer could not even keep it idle. Even after tuning them out its got a fairly "ripe" idle and I have to keep it around 1000RPM.

I think I will just throw the cobra intake (the football) on, due exhaust and rear gear and be done with it. Thanks for all the info

i knife edged my throttle plates and cut the bolts flush that bolt the butterflys down. its a stock gen II mark throttle body i just cleaned it up. made it flow better.

my buddy matt is a cylinder head machinist and 4 doors down from me, if someone wants a set of heads built i have stock heads, tell me what you want done and i'll get a price and have him build them and ship them to you. i'll take 100 bucks for the pair i have and give you a core back if you send me your stockers back. just a thought i'll throw out there. he works on high end stuff he isnt a back yard head builder, he was even in hotrod magazine and super chevy performance for being the first person to build a set of some special ls-7 warlock heads or something like that. they came to him as a partially machined chunk of billet.
