Buy domestic my @#*

you really think that you got three bad batteries in a row? and somehow Ford makes these batteries?

I love my LS, but you must admit that there are many things that should not break on an LS. Clockspring: This item interferes with cruise control, air bag, and horn. That is a safety issue in itself, very easy to plead lemon. Doors get stuck and you must have small arms or tear apart the door to get them open. By far the most horrible design on door locks to date. Valve cover gaskets and coils. Poorest quality valve cover gaskets I have seen in my 27 years of life and 17 years of driving. I still love my LS though. May be selling it sooner than later. I think I am going to buy a truck and a new boat. I recently acquired a boat and have taken it out 2 times. I am falling in love and falling hard. Oh yeah, popped a p0304 today, I have them memorized Cylinder 4 MISFIRE. my weekends are always funfilled.

Barwick,

I am sorry to hear about all the issues you had with your LS. I understand your frustration. Im guessing your car was built in one of these years 00-02? My LS has had all the issues you mentioned. However, this was before I owned it. I acquired mine from someone in the family, so I was aware of the issues. Hopefully I will have better luck.

The comment you make about the union guys is a little unfair. They just assemble the cars, they don't make the decisions to purchase the low dollar parts of lower quality. That was the great management @ ford at that time. However, If you didnt hear Ford was ranked #1 in quality this year. (yes even above the mighty toyota!)

I would like to also address that times have changed we live in world economy, so in essence cars built in this country, although by a foreign manufacturer are American. After all these cars are counted in the U.S. GDP every year. This means the union's argument really holds no merit. However, I do believe in supporting the workers in this country, so I try to buy cars assembled here, Im just not concerned that they are union made.

Best of luck with your next purchase!

It's also worth noting that the now-defunct Wixom Assembly Plant, the birthplace of every LS, was, according to JD Power, the top assembly facility this year, too. According to Blue Oval News, it's the first time since 1999 that a North American plant has won the JD Powers Platinum Award for producing cars with the fewest defects.

BTW, you can reset the oil service interval using the 2 buttons on the instrument panel on E46. Check e46fanatics.com. I have a 2002 330i sport.

Before you consider buying a BMW, especially a used one I will tell you, they are expensive as hell to maintain. My wifes 2000 323i with 82,000 miles has had about $3,000 in repairs in the last year. I can't even change the oil in it because I don't have the equipment to reset the computer that tells you when the oil service is due. I still need to fix the front window regulators, They haven't worked right since we had the car new and were supposedly repaired twice under warranty. I bought my 2003 LS 18 months ago and it has been a great car. It has 53,000 miles on it. I considered a BMW 540i sport with a 6 speed manual but it was way more expensive than the LS and might have cost me a fortune to maintain. As far as buying American, I believe in supporting the workers of this country. Unlike our president who wants amnesty for millions of illegal aliens and does nothing while our American manufacturers close plants in the US so they can move production to Canada, Mexico and other countries that provide cheap labor.

No, I think there is something wrong with this car thats killing the batteries along with the fact that Motor Craft sucks and thats all the dealership uses helps to make the process alot faster..
But thats the least most bothersome issue I SHARE with others.

riiiiight - probably makes more sense to fix the electrical leak than to keep throwing batteries in it - no?

to not fix a problem and complain that it is still there.....

Sure does but when the people that are handling the work have been trained by Ford..... it just seems to not make sense anymore.

At least to them.

I have owned many cars, like 30+..............

Contrary to what you might think you know, valve cover gaskets are common replacement parts on ALL cars.

You probably got rid of the RX7's because you didn't feel like replacing the brushes (do the same job as piston rings in an ordinary engine) in the engine that wear out every 30k miles.

Cars break. Siht happens. Next time, If you can't afford to fix it, dont buy it.

Maybe you should re-evaluate your driving and maintanence habits as well, if you're wondering why that rod bearing fell apart.

And I have never, ever had to replace a valve cover gasket. When I was a mechanic, that was probably one of the least replaced parts that we ever did. I do not know of any other car that has as many valve cover issues as the LS. And at their rate of failure and the expense involved in their replacement, there should be a class action suit slapped on Lincoln for this one.

I'd join in on that one, and I'm the kinda guy who despises most class action lawsuits since they're mostly frivolous crap, but this is absolutely pathetic... stupid things that shouldn't break (valve cover gaskets), and critical safety items (clockspring) breaking on just about EVERY LS at a "standard" interval, it's just plain wrong... not that Ford has any money to pay owners back for their troubles...
