Hey, looking for info on how hard it may be to open the dash by the center air vents where the 4 buttons sit that control the dash info. I tried searching first, promise! :P But I didn't have much luck since I don't know the official name of that panel or that button cluster.

Anyway, went to tap "reset" today to rid my info center of the "low fuel" message and the left side of the cluster came loose. So now the left side sinks in a bit when I press something. Anyone have any tips on fixing this? How-to guide for getting under that panel? Thanks!

it just pops out, use a flat blade screw driver and gently pry it out.

I just used a couple small machine screws with nuts on the back, then painted the screw heads black, temp fix, as I plan to replace the whole piece.

Yeah, I used plastic epoxy on mine when it broke. Worked like a charm. Regular super glue is not strong enough to withstand pressing the buttons. I clamped it together with a few c-clamps and let it dry overnight.

JB Welded mine a couple months back. Those things won't be coming out any time soon.

It's easy and a quick fix.

Also I'll pass along a tip I got on here about removing the vents, use a metal spatula on the bottoms and it will slide right out, more surface area then a screw driver.

Hey thanks fellas!

Glad to hear it's a simple fix. I'll give the liquid nails route a try!

I finally got bit with this failure today. I'm trying to get it JB Welded back together, but if broke into 4 pieces. So far no luck so Tasca will be getting an order.

to everybody having to do this repair, i would go ahead and reinforce the trac control button (and electric P brake if equipped) as they will break next!

to everybody that has not had to do this repair, I would go ahead and reinforce your buttons (all of them) before they break with either some epoxy or JB weld. these parts will only get harder to find from here on out.

I glued mine on my 02 4 times I think. It became a bigger repair each time. I think a new piece is over $200, ouch.

Hmm...

So now that someone has mentioned reinforcing the trac and p-brake buttons, I have to ask: How hard are those to get to? I don't imagine that center piece just pops off, like the aforementioned button cluster?

Yes, it does. Just grab at the cup holders and pull upward. It's all just held in by spring clips.

Is it just the buttons? Or the whole vent assembly?

Collision Catalog - 2006 - Lincoln - LS
body hardware, instrument panel, air vent center, w/message center 1 $71.86 $0.00 $71.86

Wonder why Tasca makes it more on ebay. $92 shipped

Because it includes the buttons? I'm under the impression I'll just get the vent assembly and will have to install my own button assembly.

I haven't seen it sold without the buttons.

I know ebay charges commission so that might be the price difference, although they sell the grille for the same price on both so I'm not sure.
