ok, car got broken into a couple days ago and I was wondering if anyones had this dilemma and what options are out there.

Todays Sunday I was able to get a quote from safelite 204.95 installed plus warranty (if its ever broken again theyll replace it for free)

I punched in a quote on the internet somewhere like autoglass.net that gave me three quotes from around my area and the lowest one was 267 and some change no warranty.

I don't mind going to a junkyard and gripping one up and putting it in myself but I just wanted to know how tuff a job it is to put it in or if its worth the hassle.

If its pretty easy and inexpensive I don't mind saving the money because i got a 500 dollar check for all the stuff and I want to make it work for me if I can. At least not work against me! (i also have to replace my head unit).

windows are easy, just the rear one is time consumeing, just take your time and do it your self. Go to car-part and find the nearist mark VIII to you and go there and take the glass out your self, that way you will know how to install it.

invest in a push plug puller looks like a screwdriver but has a fork on the end to help remove the door panel. place some tape and newspaper to protect the paint on the outside from scratches . will take some time to get the window adjusted to fit and seal right. jd

is it curved or not? Is installing a window easier than installing the 02 sensor? sounds like cake. But I want to have it in right, not flopping all over the place.

Are windows year based or do all gen 1 windows fit gen 1's or do all mark 8's window interchange?

all the glass in the mark between 93-98 will interchange , the only thing diff is the 97 and 98 rear window has an antenna in the rear defrost grid, but you can still use the glass in a 93-96. but the door glass is the same for all years.

ok cool, ive done both 02 sensors yea drivers side attaching the harness was a pita... ok its sounding like im going to just do it myself and save a but load of money! thanks guys!

i just dont want to have to take a part the door card and run into problems with breaking clips and all that. i had a couple cars that after you take off the panal its real hard to get it back on the way it was normally to avoid rattling.

but if all it takes is normal hands tools, im all game.

My door panel just pops right off hehe. All I have to do is pull up on it. There is only 1 broken clip I can see. They were in the back seat when I got the car.

Ask (safelite 204.95) if the window will be etched with the "Carlite / Lincoln" Emblem or if it's "reproduction / aftermarket". If it's "repro..." it wont match the rest of your glass.

I don't know if that matters to you but it would to me...just a thought.

i popped off my panel, i just am having trouble on how to install this window? Anyone got the steps?

hey a buddy of mine's rear window got broken by a big branch and he has a Gen 1... We were at the J/Y yesterday and saw a 97 with a good rear window. How do you go about taking it out? I assume you have to remove the weather stripping first and something probably involves heat to loosen the glue up. Any problems with the harness? If its too much of a pain he'll probably just pay at a glass place but the window and stripping look mint.

The back window and the stripping must NOT! be separated! Must come out as one. Back window is glued in. Get a Pro glass guy to remove it.
