how hard is it to replace outer door panel and repaint it? directfordparts.com sells it for $262.93. i would like to know since body shops are trying to charge $900+ to just replace the dented panel and paint it.everything else works fine. also, would it be better to purchase the panel and the paint and allow them to install and paint? dont want my insurance rates to go up more for something not that serious.
 
The dent is not that bad just the middle /lower door panel.i thought they would be able to dent it out. But they say they want to replace the panel. forddirectparts.com wants 260 for the door panel but with work and paint the body shops want to charge me $900. so i think i will be better just buying the door off ebay for $550 and paying for the paint job. how much would a decent paint job range?
 
Body shops get a discount on parts from the dealers and manufacture. Unless the new door you want to purchase is in "perfect" shape. It would be cheaper to fix the current door.

$550 for a door off Ebay. Shop labor runs about $60 an hour give or take $10. Paint, mount, etc for new door could run you several hundred. Unless you tell the shop you are paying cash and DON'T need a receipt. Only way you will beat the $900. Besides, is it really worth doing a shading job just to save a few bucks? You car is an investment. Take care of it or lose money in the long run. Just my $.02.
 
yea thats true but these people are saying the same panels cost 350+ and i know it doesnt so i want to purchase the parts and let them put it on right. instead of them giving me this bull that it cost more than it really is.im ready to trade the car in if it keeps acting up for a 300c 06 on my b-day. the door off of ebay is in good condition but from a wreck.
 
Get a quote minus the panel from them. Tell them you have access to a new panel. Other then that, they don't need to know squat.
 
its all of the above but not alot. where the biggest dent is theres a chip/crack so it does need to be painted. im going to try some more body shops that have good reviews for quotes but they wont budge for nothing.
 
i found the perfect door for me same color same year. but the frieght shipping is outrageous for $600+ is this correct? how much would a door cost to ship and what is the weight of the ls door? thank you for your time and knowledge
