Bigger (tranny) problem now

So if you read my last thread, I had an idle problem. It was recommended that I disconnect my IAC to diagnose. Doing This brought my idle from 2,300 down to about 1,300. So I decided to take it for a test drive. When I went into reverse I heard a slight chirping/squeak noise coming from the tranny. When I went into first it wouldn't shift into 2nd and once I let off the throttle the idle fell like I put it into neutral. What's going on? Maybe a Throttle Position Sensor? Could the IAC cause this? I can't afford a new tranny right now and I am limited to self maintenance because I am at college. Please share any knowledge. Thanks
 
With the harness disconnected, engine idle should have dropped much more, so suspecting the TPS as an issue (in addition to the IAC) seems logical. That too could have an effect on your trans, if it was not damaged during 'donuts'. No CEL, codes, or pending codes? Make sure you do not have a vacuum leak anywhere, and the throttle cable is not being interfered with, and I would still disconnect the battery to force the ECM to relearn sensor positions.

Even driving it with an RPM of 1300 at idle can do damage to a trans, so I hope it is not serious.
 
Is there a chance that the transmissions speed sensor could also be at fault? also, when i took off the throttle body so i can go get a new gasket and TPS i noticed that the throttle body gasket was wet..... could this have also had an affect with the idle and tranny problems? and what are some other symptoms of a bad TPS?
 
i have to say it because no one has yet but if you are in college and have no money to maintain your car why are you out beating the :q:q:q:qing piss out of it? you treat your only ride like :q:q:q:q, and its gonna let you know how it feels about that, open your wallet sunshine!!!
 
Jamie is speaking the truth. im in HS and sometimes its hard to even pay for gas.

go by a $500 Thunderbird to beat on.
 
Go to a jy and look for a 98 to grab the trans out of. Or just get the manual conversion.
 
Swap your IAC and TPS and TB gasket and make sure you plug the TPS in when putting the TB back in place. Get it all back together and see what you have. If it runs good, drive normally until you have good money coming in. You own a cheap car that cost a lot to drive and maintain.

Since the MLPS is cheap, you may want to invest in one of them also.

The black thing in the center of the tranny - the shifter rod goes through it.
