Big Dreams

Sad thing about that story is this guy bought this car brand new in 1997 for over $40K thinking it would be a collectible someday.

Fast forward to 2013 and he's trying to sell it at over a $10K loss.

The car is brand new and if kept in a climate-controlled location all these years, it should be fine!

My girlfriend figurs this guy is dying and has some medical bills or something is why he's selling it.

Suppose instead you spent $30,000 on the car you have now?

I think I'd rather spend that on a crate motor, total rebuild and upgrade of your suspension, brakes etc etc ...

There's just as nice of mark viiis with 30, 40, 50 even 60k miles on them for a fraction the cost that you could put some money into and have yourself one badass car that looks nearly the same. I don't know any collectors out there looking for a mark viii specifically to just have and park in their garage and never drive. I think its a waste of money to buy a car and never drive it or enjoy it, but that's just me.

I hope the op does not have medical problems. With that said i have to agree with the observation that it is odd one would buy a new car and not drive it. But that's just me.

I'd pay 10k if I had wads of cash to spare... & that's if I had enough wads of cash to have multiple Marks. Otherwise I agree with the above mentioned comments. I'd spend the money on making one sweet street rod out of my current cars.

I like mark viii a lot but for 30k..... There is a lot of cars out there I would spend 30k on other than a mak or like ultimate svt said own couple marks. In my case a mark and sumtin else

I'd rather buy a good lookin' southern car that has bad paint/motor/trans with average miles and drop some coin into that vs a mint/stock low mileage one.

To tell y'all the truth, I've owned brand new cars in the past and I wouldn't pay $30k for a brand new 2013 car - they're just not worth it IMHO.

Get a well-cared for used car for $10k or less, take care of it and you will get a vehicle that lasts just as long if not longer.

If I was rich and looking for a fresh Mark to modify the hell out of then I would consider 25k for a sub 1000 mile Mark. BUT it would have to be the right color combo and have a moonroof.
Lets face it, metal fatigues over time and no matter how much work you do to your Mark to freshen it the chassis will still be a chassis thats been twisted and bumped and flexed for 15+ years.

Also on that car as soon as you started really using it the air ride would fail. Bags have to be very dry and when you start flexing them again they will crack right away. Calipers should also be rebuilt, flush the tank and lines, new fuel filter, tires are worthless..... car will need a couple grand to be like it is now AND drive regularly.

That CE that shows up from time to time that still has the plastic on the door pannels and seats is one I would buy just cause it has all the coins and stuff and its only got like 200 miles on it.
I dont mind prarie tan interior and like it on the Cordovan. Sure black would be nicer but alas there were no CEs with black interior.

That's my thought. If he bought it with the intentions of not using it (which he's obviously done), why didn't he buy something like an SVT Cobra or something that actually has value to begin with? A special car that is. He should've predicted that when he saw the value of the Mark Viii's going straight down when he bought it brand new.
The value of SVT Cobras are still pretty damn high depending on what color you have on it.
Competition Orange goes for closer to/over 30k which is a lot for a 10 years old car.

I agree with you kev, Idk people buy cars and just store em. When I get older no matter what car I buy whether its brand new or 20 years old I'm driving it to enjoy what I spent my money on. For what that guys asking I'd only buy that if I was filthy rich, like a millionaire lol. For like 5k less you can get a clean 03/04 termi and still have some money left over to play with.

Thought $500ish was the going rate for LSC lights in that condition?
