Bought the new ASMI CAI eBay Tube, have an issue...

My Stock Intake tube is off, MAF sensor has been cleaned, negative terminal of battery has been removed.

I have the new ASMI LSK type tube installed. I have one connection that does not fit at all, see first pic with single red circle. What am I missing here to get this to fit? It won't insert at all, nearly the same size. What did everyone else do?

2nd pic is where it attached on the original tube.

(Ready for the MAF, new heatshield & filter once this is completed).

The hose in the first pic does not fit. Seems the ASMI eBay tube has an issue. This hose fits on the inside of each connection. Looks like I could get a 1.25" hose to fit on the outside/over each connection and add a couple hose clamps. I would think I would need vacuum hose so it doesn't collapse. Don't know if they make them that big. I might be able to duct tape it on... but would be risky trying to drive around to find a correct hose.

Unless someone has another idea... I might have to remove this new ASMI eBay Intake Tube and put the stock intake tube on to go get parts. So close to putting on the new heatshield!

I just called and talked to Mike at ASMI. Very nice and helpful guy.

He said I should have received a white tube that fits over the chrome intake inlet and fits over the existing black stock plastic tube that goes back to the thottle body. He said he get's them from a marine shop. He said the packer must have forgot to include that one, and there were 3 Lincoln LS Intake tubes that went out the same day... so they all may be missing that part. He is going to send me one tomorrow.

Guess I am putting the stock intake back on for now.

Anyone that bought an ASMI CAI eBay tube, check your order for a white tube... Mike's phone number is written on the instruction sheet... call him if needed.

why not just go to a hardware store and get a black hose to get it done now?

That's exactly what I am doing. Oreilly's doesn't have anything 1.25" (that's what they said on the phone), but the Ace Hardware does about 15 miles from me. So, had to put it back to stock (no big deal) to drive the car to go get a part. Leaving now...

Mine didnt come with one either. I cut off the part you squeeze to release it, removed the o-ring and filed the OD of the hose till it fit tight. I will also get some hose to slide over it eventually but it works for now. I dont really want a white coupling in there, its bad enuf the tube came with a blue TB coupling. I went to Advance Auto and got a black one.

Overall I am happy with the tube. Sounds great, looks great...The heatshield fits pretty snug tho, you may wanna trim the top of the section that goes behind the headlight.

Couldn't find any hose to fit at two stores. Got a black TB coupling at O'Reillys (to replace the blue one), some hose clamps at Ace Hardware, another 6x6" gasket for the MAF adapter. No one had a 1 1/8" ID hose, and the 1.25" ID hose would fit the intake inlet but not the TB. Thought about filing down the existing plastic hose that comes from the TB, as the plastic clamp is broke anyway where it meets the intake inlet.

I don't have this intake, obviously since I have a genII.

But I had the same issue and cut a slit in the hose, and pulled it over the nipple. Then wrapped with electric tape many times and put a hose clamp on it.

That tube sucks.

Should have been rubber not plastic.

Ace had a 2ft radiator hose with 1.25" ID for $20 that would have worked to hold the two together, but not at that price. They had clear, and white, and blue and black spa pump hoses with 1.25" ID rated at 150-175 degrees. The reinforced fuel line hose they had was 175 degrees... so this should work. I bought a foot of the blue & black spa hose for $4 and some clamps. I just cut off the plastic clamp on that TB to intake plastic hose at the intake tube inlet and did a test fit. I'll cut the hose clamp long ends off. Should work fine. I'll hit it with the VHT hi-temp black spray paint and git-r-done.

The KKM aluminum inlet pipe I got from LSK about four years ago had the same sort of trouble but I finally got the hard plastic end to go into the aluminum. It's tight enough to have stayed in place for the past 40K miles.

I ordered a black coupler off eBay for $1 (new, high temp rated, high pressure)... $3.95 total including expedited shipping.

8 available now, if anyone wants one here's the link (Sale - everything must go):

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1-25-Straig...Parts_Accessories&vxp=mtr&hash=item35b0e0a89e

Super High Quality 1.25" 4 Ply Straight EPDM Nylon Wrapped Coupler, dont settle for cheap rubber ones, will resist high temperature in engine bay, will not distort or melt, have been tested for 200PSI at factory.

(Edit: I see ASMI has sent me that white hose coupler, got an eBay shipment email update).

I noticed some moisture at the IAC valve tube inlet opening at the TB, kinda dirty oily water (not much), is this an issue? I have noticed in the past before any of these intake mods, that when at WOT there is a smell that I can't explain. I don't run the engine hard or at WOT often, so the smell goes away and it gets forgotten. I noticed the same smell today at WOT testing the new intake. Saw some dirty or oily water at the opening of the IAC tube inlet when I took the IAC to intake hose off. Is this a problem? (I've searched on the internet and LVC, thought I'd ask). It may not even be oil, just dirty moisture, but questioning if there should be any moisture in there at all...

Well, you used water hose, you should have expected some water in it. - Just kidding.

If its cold and wet there, maybe there's some icing in the intake?

i had the same problem.... i just dremeled a slit down the middle. so it had room to move...then you can still use the oring

It's southern Arizona and it's not freezing or cold or wet, yet. I saw this moisture before putting on the new intake or hose. It's when I took everything off that I saw this water/condensation/dirty or oily moisture at the IAC. I pulled the IAC to intake hose again last night, no moisture... but it had sat for 8 hours.

Since there is emissions testing in AZ, I wanted to preserve the original IAC to intake hose so I could put back in the old intake tube snorkel if needed.

That ASMI intake tube just needs swedged a little like an exhaust pipe at the opening going to the IAC, then this would be a non-issue for proper fit.

I'll get a better hose someday, was just curious about the moisture in there.

This turned into a Mission Impossible episode trying to find rubber hose locally with the correct ID. Went to Home Depot & Lowes again and a real Plumbing Supply company today. Nothing available with the correct Inner Diameter. The couplers listed in links above are mis-leading. They are marked as 1.25" to 1.25", but actually measure over 1.5" ID (as they are meant to go over the OD of a 1.25" ID pipe). They are also extremely bulky and not rated for engine compartment temps per the Plumbing Supply company.

Went to NAPA and they had what I needed. It's a 1.25" ID steel wire reinforced hi-temp rubber hose. $12 per foot. Cut off 3" and got it installed with hose clamps. Fits great, kinda snug even without hose clamps.

I have more hose than I need, and another coming in the mail (so I have four 3" hoses at 1.25" ID). I will part with the hoses at cost of $3 each plus shipping and mail them out to anyone that wants one, send me a PM if interested. (You can get hose clamps anywhere).

Hite337, I'll send you one of these hoses for free if you want one.

Sorry I just saw this- I have the same tube and just went to Lowes and got a short piece just like you did. I shrink wrapped it in red to match my enging bay.

Sorry bout the unfinished fiberglass job on the cover panel. I cut all the bumps out, fiberglassed it smooth and currently it's wrapped in gloss black Carbon fiber Dinoc Vinyl

Looks good LDM. Thanks for the offer on the hose but I ordered some hose from McMaster Carr yesterday at work. Its a high temp fluroelastomer (big word right?) hose. We use it at work so I ordered some on the company account. Im sure they wont mind me trimming off 3" from a 50' roll

and yes- I was able to squeeze a 10 inch weapon r filter on the end

You need to pull that throttle body off and paint it with some aluminum color engine paint like I did. Thats the only thing that takes away from your engine bay. Looks good.....and it looks like you need to get one of my heatshields :D Thread jack

I have a brand new throttle body that I am getting power coated in a meatallic red color. I have a heat shield, but i pull it off when the temp drops below 30. I am in Wisconsin. But thanks! I saw your ad and they look good.

Understood. I dont drive mine when its very cold or snowing so I never thought about removing the heatshield in the winter. Good point...
