any pointers on chabging the pumpkin?

I should have asked sooner.

I'm about to put the car up on aloft and begin changing the rear end for my other rear end with 4.10's. Any pointers or warnings? Something I should be careful for?
I removed the rear end from a parts car with no concern whatsoever about putting it back in, so I cut some corners. Something I will not do to this one.

nope it easy took me 2 hours to pull mine swap gears in it then reinstall it. i just pulled the pass side hub off and cv off and left the drivers all together then pulled it down at an angle and reinstalled it the same. only trouble i had was putting the rear end fluid in i had to use a 3 foot peice of hose and do it fromt he pass side wheel well but after i figured that out it was a cake walk.
 
It would be a good time to check the forward diff bushings for damage. Make sure to use loctite on the pinion flange bolts.

Weeeelllll. That was fun. Got started about 7:15 finished up about 11. swapped over to a 93 driveshaft. That was a pain. Almost had to drop the gas tank which I managed not having to do. Just loosened it and wasn't able to wiggle it out and in.

GEars whine and roar. I'll be bringing it back to the shop that put the gears in.

It sure as heck is fun though! No more clunk when I stick it in gear and it has woken up plenty!

4.10's FTW!
 
I checked the mounts. Nice and solid. Rear end was on a 64k mile lsc parts car from two years ago.

I forgot the loc tight. I'll be taking care of that asap. Thanks for the 411 guys.

Good choice. Some whine is ok, a roar is NOT. If it sounds like a tornado siren when you are on the highway, the differential will be destroyed within a year. Been there, dealt with that.
 
I was told to drive it about 30 miles and it should go away big not then something isn't right. So, I have about 20 more miles to go (which is a trip home) then we will see. I'm still bringing it by his shop.

As long as you are in the early stages, it may just simply need to be adjusted a bit. Do it now before there is significant wear on the gearset. I'll be honest, I don't buy that line because I was told the same thing and my car got progressively worse. "If it is set up right the first time, you should be able to rock the hell out of it and hit the strip the next day with the car." That's what the guy with the 9 second Duster here local tells me. No break-in period needed.< Yup, you read that right. Unfortunately I have twice dealt with idiots who can't properly set up a rear end. My current 30 year old mechanic finally was the guy to get it right and after he set it back up he told me to go beat the chit out of it and I did.
 
Something's not right. I set up the 4.10 gearset in my SVO (99 IRS) myself and no noise at all.....

i have mild whine on deceleration, like so mild i can only hear it windows up and radio off. completely quiet otherwise.

also did it myself.
 
Should be NO noise after install. Maybe a ever so slight whine. So now you have to pull it all apart again. Might want to bring it to them and let them drive car to hear roar. Tons of rears set up by ford with 4.10s and no noise.

I drove the car some more and it roars and wines on acceleration AND decel. I'm called him and bringing it straight to his shop. I will not pull that rear again and install it. Its not my fault, so he will have to do it. I paid for a job well done. Not a whine and a roar.
 
Put your foot down and stick it to the man isaiah. I know how you feel man and it will drive you fvcking insane. Expect it to get worse not better if you don't get it resolved. Good luck dude and I hope he sets things straight with you!! That's exactly the kinda chit I am talking about right there. There are people in this world that are fvcking idiots that should not touch cars and I'll be one of the first people you hear biching about it because I went through hell and high water before my car was finally set up right and now I have a quarter-sized hole in a young set of Kooks headers. Sometimes I wish I could just get a friggin' break. All this bullchit just to prove that I can run 13 in a Gen2. I don't know if a person should call me determined or clinically insane. Probably both.
 
hmm. Something strange. On my ride home I hardly heard it. I rode with windows up, ac and radio off and barely heard the roar and whine.

I got to the guys shop and went for a rode and could only hear the whine around 60-50 decel and slight roar about 25.
 
Dang Kirk. Sounds like you have had quite the trouble with your car. I'd love to get into the 13's. I've always said even if I ran a 13.99 I'd be happy.
 
I wound up pulling both shafts out. That was a major PITA. It was me and a lift. That was it. I'm 135lbs and a small build. But I managed.

What did he say? Either way, you should not have a roar ever, period. A slightly perceptible whine on decel perhaps yes, but nothing more!

Fast forward to 1:10 for the decel of my car at the track and listen to the slight whine. That's all you should hear ever out of the rear end.

He said if it comes back to being it by and he will take care of it. He also suggested at 1,000 miles flushing the rear end.
 
Did mine on the ground, one half shaft method. Took me all day, but I had to cut my exhaust and fix it. Worth it though. Did you go trak loc?
