So I finally got fed up with the annoying chime everytime I open the drivers door. While I was routing my bluetooth mic from the dash to the visor, I started ripping the dash apart to see where this bad boy was comin from and I found it. Here is the speaker after i took some pliers to it. Its behind the dash. Now there is peace and quite at last. :)

i'd love to do this. My car chimes any time the drivers door is open. It's got a problem in the ignition switch. How about a little more detail on doing this?

easy, take the instrument cluster out of the dash, remove the screws on the back part of the cluster and take the white back part off. you will see a big circle black thing like in the picture. Take some pliers to it and remove the pos.

OK.. can someone please explain this in even easier terms....

Where do i begin to take the instrument cluster out of the dash???

What part am i taking apart? Pictures?

The seatbelt chime is pretty annoying. I disabled mine by following the instructions in the manual. It took less than 10 minutes. I had to turn the key few times, push bunch of buttons in the car and the chime was gone.I have a gen 2 so i don't know if you can do the same with the gen 1s.

You sure that chime isnt used for other reasons such as low fuel, engine overheat, etc. etc? Dont think id want to miss out on an important indicator like that.

Just check the cluster for a message. Although, I wouldnt suggest doing what I did because for some reason, I have no interior lights now besides the radio, domes, and message lights. I have no idea what i did!

door switch?

instead of tearing into the dash, why not just hardwire around the door switch so it thinks its always closed? On my old car, I just taped over the switch when I worked on the car with the door open.

Wow lol

The only chime I hate is the low fuel chime over and over...I'll fill you up when I damn well feel like it!

With the seatbelt chime disabled, low fuel level chime and the rest of the stuff still works on mine.

I'd say you just ruined your cluster. Whoops.

friend of mine did just that.
didn't like the door buzzer, jamed a screwdriver into the speaker.

Then watched in horror as burning wires traced all over the car.
The car almost burned down before he could get the battery disconnected.

After the fires were out, nothing on the car worked as before.

Just say "NO" to shadetree fixes such as this.

with a lot of new cars the door pin switch is inside the door so you cant get to the switch without taking the door apart, a better opiton(if this is somthing that HAS to be done) would be to find the wire for the drivers door(black/yellow wire @ FEM, 20 pin black connector, pin #8) and ground it, that way it(the cars computer) always thinks that the door is closed, and you still have the rest of your warnings. personally i think the warnings are there for a reason, but to each there own.

edit: actually thats even worse of an option than i thought since the alarm will not function correctly (or at all, if some one goes in through the drivers door) most of the time when the car chimes with out a key, its because the is a problem with the key switch, you could try to cut the key sence wire (red/white @ ignition switch harness)

DISCLAIMER: the best option would be to fix the problem that is making the chime go off in the first place

How did you get rid of the seatbelt chime?

EDIT: Nevermind, I found it in the tech articles, for a gen one check out page 129 (For the 2002 manual anyways)

Oh yeah...the beltmider chime was awful as well. I disabled that first thing.

Once again, I gotta thank LVC for telling me something I didn't know. After this post I searched for the way to disable the seatbelt chime and did it last night. Got it to work the first time (although I'm still not sure how - kinda reminded me of putting in a code for a videogame). And thank goodness I found it - that chime was obnoxious.

I fixed my seatbelt chime too. I WEAR MY SEATBELT to make the chime stop! Sorry, rant off, to the OP tough break on the cluster not working now.

The worst part about the chime is if you stop somewhere and have a friend still in the car, run to get something in the house or w/e and it STILL GOES OFF IN PARK!

Stupid :q:q:q:qing buzzer, I can't stand it. Every time something goes off, I get pissed and wanna stab puppies in the eye. Ford/Lincoln/Mercury must think their owners are idiots, and need to be constantly reminded of obvious :q:q:q:q. Do I really need to be told every 5 :q:q:q:qing minutes that I have 50 miles of range left?? Seriously? My reset button is wore the :q:q:q:q out. Stupid piece of :q:q:q:q :q:q:q:qing cars!

FLM great styling, horrible functionality and ownership.

BMW doesn't do this, they have "smarter" cars.

/end thread. :D

Why stab puppies in the eye? Aim for something else like annoying wildlife (skunk, coons, etc), but I do understand your point about the low fuel beep.
