Am I going insane to want this classic Mark?

In about 1988 I had a chance to buy a 1967 Ford factory racing 427 SOHC crate motor for $5000! I thought the guy was really crazy at the time but it would cost 10x that today! If you could ever find one...

keep it exactly how it is but with bags, buy the missing hubcap or remove the others

No love for the aftermarket wheel on the Mark III?

I'm thinking about it from the standpoint of entering it into local car shows.

I like all-original cars too, but I'm not sure how much interest that would generate vs. modding the car. It could always be easily returned to original. I wouldn't cut the body or anything...

Unless it was to put tubs in the rear fenderwells to accomodate the shortened rear axle for the slicks, after I install the blower :p

I love those cars! Its just so slick looking yet big and mean too. I would locate a DOHC 5.4 with trans to slap in it. Its a cruiser so no big HP needed but some efficency and reliability would be cool. Other then that I would have deep black windows, center console, big stereo and some of the big wide Recaro bucket seats that are for power yachts. You have the suppert of a bucket but still the wide comfertable seat like a split bench.

Not sure what I would do for wheels cause it would have to be a classic Lincoln look but large enough to fit some big ass brakes.

Am I missing something? Where the hell are the rims? Also, while the 427 is a monster they are almost impossible to find parts for due to their rarity and when you do they're going to cost an arm and a leg. I would say go with a stroked s/c 460.

God I love that car! The Mark III has always been one of my favorite Marks. Right next to the original Continental Mark II of 1955/56. Personally, I would put some 18" chrome wheels, a nice deep black paintjob, upgraded interior with '92 Mark VII LSC front buckets (I've always liked those), custom console with floor-shifter, and a well-massaged 460 with EFI, and a 5-or 6-speed automatic. I would probably also transplant a Mark VIII independent front and rear suspension with manually adjustable air springs and Thunderbird Super Coupe electronically adjustable shocks. And of course, 4-wheel disc brakes. That would be a sweet ride.

I would say your very sane. I would do that in a heartbeat. I've always wanted a early 60's to do. They just always want so much for them.

My favorite Continiental design. I actually used to have a '62 Connie. It was forest green with white leather interior. It had the good 'ol 430 MEL engine with the 3-speed auto. It also had auto dimming headlights with the little photo-eye on the dash, and power everything. I really miss that car.
