OK I've been doing some reading around the web and the consensus is that K&N filters are not a good idea.

So ... since I've replaced my MAF and am set up for a cone style filer. Any suggestions on a better filter? Yes Bryan I know stay with stock ... thanks...

I've read that Pro M filters are better than the K&N and do not require the oil from what I've read on one site.

Is there any company that makes a Paper Conical filter?
 
I have an Amsoil nanofiber conical filter, it requires no oil, filters better than paper and flows almost as good as an oiled filter.
 
There is nothing wrong with conical filters... It's just that when they are stuck right onto a MAF they disrupt the laminar flow.... The stock air box is designed for perfect straight flow....

If you add ohh... 3"-5" of straight tubing after the cone before the MAF it would do the trick though...
 
+1 with the Kid, I have both setups and if it weren't for the one SC I would keep the stock box less snorkle design.

WTF is this true? I have never had a problem with my K&N air filter. What kinf of problems are they reporting? I have a K&N in all my cars.

Problems with the oils ruining the MAFs,

That the K&N allow more dirt through to the engine than most filters..

That most enthusiasts are going back to paper filters becasue they preform better.

I've been reading this on many other forums ... don't have them available right now ... Although on these forums they are saying that the Pro-M filters are a good filter to use if you are using a Cone Filter. I just want to hear from the people I trust more. The members of LvC.
 
Sounds to me like classic over oiling of filter element.

I think the problem with the kn's are when people buy the recharge kit and then they over oil the filter and then the oil gets on the MAF. It should be fine right out of the box though.
 
i got the k&n panel on mine, ive never oiled the thing......just cleaned it, its white now.......lol, nothing gets thru to the MAF, its always been clean......
 
id just be interested in a drop in panel filter. they talk about a true cold air intake sys, but they never show the box just the intake tube......
 
I use a K&n. when i took out that a/c compressor I had to take off the air box. Checked the maf and it was clean in there, no dust or anything. The filter was dirty on the bottom, so I flipped it over, next time I'll clean and oil it.
 
The trueflow rep said it would cost far to much in machining prep to produce anything unless we were looking into the 1000's. No luck there..............but, he did give me the contact of the guys that make/supply their filters and should be able to get the same foam and modify it. Hmmmm.....:rolleyes: We could actually make some cone style filters I think. Worst case we cut stuff to fit our box. It was interesting that they flowed a little less but were equal on the dyno. Another example of getting more than enough air in our cars. I think the best thing would be the foam filter and smoother intake tube with some type of ram air set up. Time to tinker.
 
the bigger problem with a k&n type filter with a bigger mas is sticking it under the hood without a cold air intake....your sucking in 270 degree under hood air instead of ambient air temp which is hard on your motor. I have mine run into the fender but would at least run one of Geno's ice boxes or something similar.
 
My thing is this...Auto manufacturers have to go by something called CAFE (corporate average fuel economy). If the cafe is more than the gov't allows, they get fined. this is why you see gm and ford with a bunch of gas drinking suvs along side a bunch of small high MPG cars. The paper filters are the best comprimise between price and engine performance and serviceability. These foam filters are good for atv and dirtbikes, not cars and trucks. the more flow, the less filtering capacity. This looks like a marketing gimmick.
 
I run a K&N panel with no air silencer and have had no problems.
