Hey everyone,
I'm thinking about getting a new aftermarket headunit(Alpine IVA-W505). And i was wondering from all you guys that have put one in your cars, is it worth spending the extra 200 dollars and get it from an authorized dealer(crutchfield) to get the dealer's warranty

I've only bought once from a local audio shop. Too expensive.

Try sonicelectronix.

yeah i have looked at them, at crutchfield its 899 but at sonic its 769 plus 89 for there warranty so 860. but i wondering if there warranty does the same as alpine

that was the place i was mainly looking at, thats why im wondering if spending the extra 200 dollars worth it for a warrenty

anything with a moving face is worth the warranty, however all the good quality brands usually make it well past the warranty period before they brake.

with or with out a warranty, i would get an Ipod and use the CD slot behind the face as little as possible.

I was waiting for u to comment on this.
Are the motors know for going bad on the motorize screen

I bought my unit from sonic. The warranty that you purchase with them is an replacement warranty. If something happens to the unit, you send it in and they will replace it. The manufacturer's warranty is when they will fix your item instead of replacing it.

Ok, so I just went out sat. to an authorized dealer and got the alpine iva-w505, now tomorrow imma go to the junk yard tomorrow and get the rear deck out of and ls with the alpine system, since I don't have anything back there, and when my dash kit comes in I will put it in. May do a review also

Thanks to your topic. I started looking at headunits. Just ordered Alpine w203(without navigation software) for $450. Having EVERYTHING;) installed on friday. I will post new pictures of the new set-up then.

lol nice! I impulse buy a lot of stuff.

Not really an impulse buy. I had been looking. Not really much else. I checked Crutchfields price. Went to two local stereo shops. They both said they would match the price of $450. I ended up ordering it from a friends shop. He is installing the headunit and few more goodies. I am doing the beauty boards. If I have the time, I will post pictures friday. IF not, saturday for sure.

I impulse bought 350 worth of lenses a couple weeks ago. Those aren't so bad though, since I can always resell them.

I am currently running a Memphis amp and two 10" subs off the factory Alpine 6-disc changer. USAC rated at 128db. Not bad for only 200 watts.

After friday.:D

I'm sorry, but my question was if you guys have took the 6 by 9 out and put components there

well there is not a lot of company's that make 6x9 subs, there are a couple, you just need to find them online, then you will probably need a slightly bigger amp to drive them, or you can do what most people try to do and put full range speakers back there and actually lose some bass, by the time you've tried the first option, you might as well have bought a real sub and amp and get much better sound quality for the same price, as it is very hard to get good solid bass out of such a small driver, going with one decent 10 or 12 will add a lot more depth to the music and not distort when pushed like the factory's will.

with my cousin's LS (early 1st gen) the factory subs are not just two 6x9 and and amp bolted to the rear deck lid, but they where in a big bolt it plastic enclosure, we took out the factory subs cover one hole and modified the other hole to fit an 8" L7, used the factory plug to get signal and ran a new power wire from the battery for a new amp, and it took up no extra space and sounded amazing. you should see the look on peoples face when we popped the trunk and they saw nothing when they expected to see a pair of 10"s or 12"s.

well i currently have 2 10 inch rockford in the trunk, so now i will just put some components that will put out some good mid bass as well as vocals
