ABS/TC Module & Pump.....again

I back to looking for an ABS module for a 98 again. For those that remember my post from a couple of months ago, my ABS/TC light had been on for some time. I had a diagnosis done to show it was the ABS module. I bought one off e-bay that was in worse shape than mine (the seller refunded my money). My garage took mine apart and put it back together..........that worked 90% of the time for 3-months or so. The ABS/TC light is back to being on 100% of the time.

I'm pretty sure Ford does not make or stock this part anymore.

Does anybody know where I get get a decent ABS module for a 1998?! I really think it needs to come off a car from the south. I think the snow belt is what wrecks a lot of these.

From what I understand the 1998 ABS module is a 1998 only part #....93-97 modules will not work? This is what I was told here last time I was researching this?

Part does not exist new anymore anywhere. Just check my local dealer and Five Start Ford.

Got a couple of calls into the junk yards on car-part.com. I'd like to find one from a car down south.......well and also one that works, unlike the first one I got from e-bay.

Just ordered another used ABS module from a junk yard in Florida off car-part.com. Got it for $50 + shipping. Hopefully the part is in better shape than the last used one I got.

My big concern was finding the part off a southern car.

The part number on the ABS controller I just got is "F8LC-2C219-BA" Is that right for a 1998 ABS module/controller?? I don't think it is.

Of course the junk yard I ordered it from said it came off a 1998, but I don't think I have the right part.

This is rediculous. I've spent way too much time and money to fix this stupid ABS/TC light.

I've got the right part number for a 1998. I just called my local Lincoln dealer. The number above is the engineering number which corresponds to the right part number.........not sure why the part number and engineering number are not the same.

Anyway, is the easiest way to get to the ABS module through the wheel well or go under the battery box........or do I need to to both? I replaced the ABS relay through the wheel well.

Someone else can chime in on this, but if it is like a Gen 1 you will have to take the battery and tray out to get to the lines, and then go thru the wheel well to get to the pump itself. I know a gen1 is a pretty involved swap, lots of lining up and standing on your head.

I have a 98. Can I disconnect the ABS module from the pump, while the pump is still attached to the car? If so, can this be done under battery box only? Or do I have to go through wheel well & battery box (maybe headlight too)?

Please help on this one. I'm going to tackle this right now if I can get the ABS Module off while the pump is still attached to the car.....and I only have to go in through 1-access point. The module is attached to the pump with 4-bolts, but can I get to those 4-bolts while the pump is still attached to the car?? Anybody??

After a long, expensive and frustrating road with an ABS module.........I HAVE ABS and TC!!!!

I've spent close to $500 to get this fixed!

Nobody answered my question on access to this thing, so I messed with it myself, and yes, you can get the ABS module off the car without taking the pump out. I accessed it though the wheel well. Most of it has to be done by feel as you can't see any of the 4-bolts holding the module to the pump, but I had 2-spare module/pump set-ups with me so I knew how to seperate the module from the pump.

As far as the money......
- I spent $100 on an ABS relay as suggested here (that didn't fix it)
- I spent ~$100 on my garage's diagnostics (which pointed to the relay, but you guys suggested my pump might be broken too based on the error code)
- I spent ~$150 for my garage to try and install a bad pump/module I bought from e-bay. I got my money back from the e-bay seller, but I still had to pay my garage to take my original one out, put the bad one in, then put my original one back in.
- I spent $70 ($50+shipping) for a WORKING abs module from car-part.com. I put this one in myself.

If you guys haven't been following, no new ABS modules for 1998's are available anymore, and even if they were, the last price Ford had on them was over $1,000!!

My advice for anybody needing a replacement ABS module........get it off a car from the South. Because of the location of these in the car, low and behind the bumper, I'm pretty sure the snow belt helps wreck these.

......these 98 ABS modules are going to be valuable down the road!!

I have a 98 parts car, and I've been hoarding the parts for my 97. Had I known this earlier, you would have been welcome to come and get what you needed off the car.

As it is, I suppose I now have this ABS setup that someone can have, if they need it.

At least it was the module and not the hydraulic unit, though it could be if the problem keeps coming back. I'd think a module would last a lot longer than a couple months if that was the real issue...

FYI, I found this outfit today while I was trying to solve a problem with the ABS unit on my 93 Mark VIII. They can't help me but I think they can fix the ABS modules on 96 and up. (They cant repair the modules on the Gen 1's that are Teves Mark IV)

I found that I have a leak between either the motor and pump or between the pump and solenoid valve body. It looks like I might get away with a gasket if I can find (or make) one. If anybody has a lead on a rebuilt pump unit I'd appreciate it.

14.6@97MPH, I know it's too late to help you now but after I pulled the wheel and inner fender and had a look at the ABS unit I pulled off the front bumper cover. It's fairly easy to get off on the Gen 1's (10 minutes??) and it shouldn't be that much harder on the Gen 2's. Once you pull the bumper cover the whole unit is easily accessible.
