I've always thought I'd tune the car myself but I'm beginning to think it'd be better to save $200(wideband maybe still come) and lots of headaches by getting tunes from Torrie.

Here's what here going to do.

1. Adjust the fuel cut down from about 2400 rpm to ~1100
2. Remove the throttle hang between gear changes(holds the last rpms after clutch pressed for 1-2 seconds and very slowly comes down).
3. Remove top speed limiter or raise it to 160MPH
4. Recalibrate for a 180 degree thermostat, intake, and exhaust.

Is there anything else I should have him do? I was thinking about asking if he could put alternator draw at WOT, it's popular on the focus.
I figured I'd leave the rev limiter.

Remember that I don't have an automatic so there's nothing to be gained there.

Anyone not happy with Torries tunes? And why?

You'll find several of us run tunes from Torrie, and most are happy with the performance. However, you'll find that some of us differ some on the some of the customer service.

First off - Torrie is VERY consistent in responding back if you contact him. I don't think anyone would dispute that. You may or may not like what type of response you get from him. Some have been happy, and some have been disappointed. I won't get into whether or not ANY of those opinions are justified - as they will be pretty subjective to the people that have them.

So, to answer potential questions as best I can:

1. Do the tunes work? - I would say yes, and if you excuse the pun, "your mileage may vary" on whether or not they work to what you were expecting.

2. How custom can you get? - Torrie will listen to any specifics you have, and if it is something that isn't possible, he will let you know. He will not provide any specifics as to how or what he is adjusting to get a desired result you may be looking for. Many have indicated that this goes with the territory of the tuning business.

3. Would you recommend using Torrie? - I'd probably say yes on that. His tunes have worked decent for me, and he has always responded to any issue or question I have had. I would have preferred a little more info in his responses, but I somewhat understand why he doesn't.

Hope that helps,

Tru

I've had my tune from Torrie for almost a year. No complaints with it or with his service. The few times I had to contact him his responses have been almost instant, although very few words.

Sounds like a plan. I like the rev limiter too.

Does he even do a tune for us MTXers? I like what you're asking or looking for. I hate the free revving between shifts. I really hate coming to a stop at 2K plus rpm and then as if by magic, as soon as vehicle motion stops, it goes to normal idle, but not until you stop moving. I had mine reflashed at a dealership last year and it made that high rev with the clutch in while moving even worse. I can't imagine how much that must affect fuel economy, plus the running down the road doing 40 and having to brake to slow it down with no foot on the gas.

That does sound worse. I'll let you know how it goes.

I have no personal experience with Torrie. From all of the posts I have read on here, I took a shot with a different tuner that also did my Mountaineer. I am quite pleased with the results, it cost less, and the guy was very helpful, respectful, and responsive.
