hey guys, so when i first got this car the transmission was buzzing so i did the 1-2 accumulator swap and converted to mercon V. the swap made the 1-2 shift smooth as glass but the buzzing was still there off and on. in the past week or so it has gotten to be very bad. what elce can be the problem? Im prety sure the spring didnt break again because the shift is still smooth. any suggestions appreciated.. Thanks

Trans is on it's way out. You are hearing the torque converter making the whining sound. Remove and replace with a 98+ trans, the right way. If you don't already have shudder, you soon will.

also it only makes the noise in park and neutral if that makes a difference. no noises in any gear

great, now i guess the next question is where can i get a scrap car or cheap tranny?

lol nvm keep my two cents

That's about what the TC is worth in a 93 - 97 Mark, 2 cents. Really, the whole trans!

It makes a loud humming, whining, buzzing sound in park and neutral but as soon as you hit drive, the sound goes away. Been there and done that. I know the sound all too well. Get a 98+ trans, do the electrical internal swap and do the J-Mod while you're at it and you will hear pure quietness, until you hit 2nd gear and then tires bark with ease.

I don't even know. What I do know is my 60k mile 95 has had a light, intermittent buzzing sound for 3 years and the transmission shifts and drives perfectly at all times. Is this buzzing something I need to worry about as well? I just ignored it because I knew the fluid was new, full, and mercon V.

As long as you only use "DRIVE" and don't manual shift your car, it should last you but when you start feeling the first signs of shudder, then it's time to start looking. Slight shudder is kinda normal, depending on the speed and incline and acceleration you're giving the car. You'll know it when you have true shudder.

I know neither of you have mentioned manual shifting your cars but if you do, you are slowly killing the trans and in some cases, quickly killing it.

Oh yeah Im well aware of the shudder these transmissions can get. Years back when I first got my 94 it had that problem around 35-40 mph when it would try to go into overdrive. Mercon V fixed that problem. The transmission in my 95 shifts 293048932043209 times better than the one in the 94 ever did.

Thanks for your help. If it comes time that I want to get rid of the buzzing, whats the fix anyway?

04 trans wont work been there done that.... just start looking for a 98 mark trans; K.I.S.S.
If you have another car drive the mark till the trans goes, its usually just 1 gear that goes at a time.

The best advice I can give is to swap transmissions out to a 98+ because most everything has been upgraded in that trans. All you have to do is swap out the electrical internals which is stupid simple to do and go ahead and replace the front and rear seals on the new trans and do the J-Mod. If you have tools, cordless drill, 3/32's and 7/64's bit, you can do the J-Mod yourself. If you ordered the seals and gaskets from Maxx, it's just under $30 shipped to your door. The electrical internal swap is free of charge because you would be doing it. The parts are in the trans you would be taking out.

I swear both of them are very very simple to do and you will love the end results when it's finished and finally installed. Swapping transmissions is the hardest part of all of it. You need two people for less time consumption but one person can manage.

98, 99, 00 I am almost positive will work but as I said, wasn't sure about the others.

As for Jamie lol, you got that one right. :D

sorry to budge in here but does it mean anything if at about WOT the 1-2 shift is long. like it takes awhile for it to decide what to do but then snaps into 2nd, for the love of god dont tell me a the trans is going out

Welp, you officially scared me so I got into research mode again. Turns out the 95s are more prone to valve body buzzing for whatever reason and the fix is a 96 or newer valve body. SleeperMark, I looked at your profile and see that you too have a 95. Im guessing this is our problem.
