hey everybody, im looking to buy a mark viii and i wasn't to sure which generation to choose. i like the look and features of the gen 2 , but i also like the look and speed of the gen 1. Im about 50/50 on which one i should get.
im looking for something thats nice, fast and reasonably cheap. ;)
i found a nice 1st gen for 3500 with 125K , but i havent even found a 2nd gen for sale near me.
what do you guys think ?

thanks

3500 for a gen 1 with 125K is way too much imo. What first gen is it? If it's a 96 LSC then not so bad, still, 125K...

Remember also that not all gen 1's are the same speed wise. 93's and 94's are considered the fastest (stock) 95's and 96's are supposedly more leisurely but the 96 has OBD II which opens up extra tuning options. 96 also has some stand alone parts which can be hard to find.

...Especially with being so close to the Mark VIII retirement state... Florida! Bound to be some good gen II deals down there!

could you tell if it's a LSC buy looking at it?
i cant lol

94 aint a lsc (even though it will say it on the title) id go gen 2. obd2, better headlights, cool neon rear, better interior

You gott decide which you would rather have, more luxury or more sport.

Personally, as president of club 16, I say get one of each.

Stock for stock, the gen1 is faster. But a few mods and the gen 2 will be faster with a more luxurious ride (interior).

I say get whatever body style you like the best and make it fast.

I've owned both and favor the gen 2 lsc.

They Look alot newer..most people dont believe its 11 years old, led turn lamps, puddle lamps, the interior is made with better materials and is much nicer, antenna built into the back glass, obd2 for tuning, hid's, 98 has a better trans, cleaner engine bay with coil on plug ignition, front mount throttle body and they can easily be made just as fast as a gen 1 with little effort.

The Gen 2's are more expensive to maintain and they have more trivial things that break and cost a small fortune to fix.

The headlights used to be a bonus for the Gen2, but since you can't replace the bulbs anymore, it's sort of a wash.

I like the looks of the Gen1 better.

I would get a nice gen 2 LSC a clean one looks real nice and has timeless looks that make it look like it is only a year or 2 old IMO. i have not swaped a cobra intake but it seems kind of hard, but if you do alot of research it should not be that hard. hear are a couple links to get you started!

This. Both gens have pros and cons, but no cons are enough to make me avoid either gen. Except for the second gen's fishbowl headlights and effeminate looks. :p

so the cobra' intakes are just "plug and play"?

It bolts up to our heads fine, it probably takes about 15 hours of work and a bit of fabrication to get it up and running...

soounds fun lol
is there any aftermarket company that makes a better intake thats just a direct swap? (for the 1st gens)

There are gen 1's that have been fitted with the Cobra intake also, though from what I understand, it's abit more work due to hood clearance. Gen 1 intake is a pretty good performer as is though.

I'm fond of the gen 1 style myself, so I'd vote for a '96 as they have the OBDII which is easier to play with than burning chips for the OBDI, imho...

Each gen has it's advantages and disadvantages.

I like the advantages of both. Since I also own both, I'd be more concerned with condition, price, color, and condition.:D

With condition I'd be more concerned with things that aren't easily repaired like paint, rust and leather.

What are your tastes ?
Pic a a color combo you like and buy that.

I wouldn't buy a 96...its the only year I would stay away from.
I wouldnt pay more then 5,500 for a mint low mile gen 2
I wouldnt pay more then 3,500 fo a mint low mile gen 1

depending on how much $$ you want to spend will help your decision...a Gen 1 will be alot cheaper and leave your extra $$ for mods, but a Gen 2 looks and feels nicer.....personal preference....I think I can speak for everyone that which ever generation you get you'll have a nice car!!
