I only use Mobil1 synthetic in the car with ONLY the Ford OEM filter. I also always change when the car says to. My question is how many miles does the car go before it says its ready? I keep forgetting to clock it in all the oil canges I have done. It seems like its over 3000 miles but not sure just how much.
Also cant I go longer with the full synthetic? Car spends most of its time at 70-80 MPH and almost never do I light up the tires or go WOT from a stop. I go WOT when passing but thats only 60-90 jump then slow back down to 80. I dont even do that that often.
In my Cobra I used the same oil but always changed it at 3000 miles cause of the blower.

See I ask this because the car just gave me the warning for an oil change soon and I just checked it. It wasnt a drop low and the oil was still a nice clean honey color. Didnt even leave any black on the napkin.

The oil life monitor depends on many different variables depending on how you drive the car. The only true way to see if you can do extended oil service intervals is to get a sample of your used oil and send it to a lab. I send mine to Blackstone Labs, it cost $22.50 to do and is well worth it.

Oh, IDK that the monitor changed with the cars dynamics. I figured it was not smart enough for that. Thats cool to know. :D

I hope I don't get to the point where I'm doing multiple changes a month.... lol

I change mine every 5k... to hell with what the car thinks it needs...

My oil life monitor usually gets to 0% around 5-6000 miles. I mainly do highway driving 60-80 mph 110 miles round trip 5x a week.

i change my oil every 3000~, Mobil 1 10w40 w/ Mobil 1 filter..........it comes out pretty dark and pretty thin......

i tried going 5000 once, but by 4000 the oil was looking pretty bad...........

Mobile 1 5W-30 FS every 7000 miles. Car was bought in 2005 with 164,000 and now has 181,000. I have only changed my oil three times since bought. The two times I have seen it, it still looked fairly clear but I don't send my oil off for lab work. Check the link below and decide for yourself. Consistent oil changes may be hurting you more than helping.

That's a myth that you can tell by the darkness of the oil if it's looking pretty bad or not... only way to tell is to send it to a lab.

I heard on here it's most important to keep it clean and I'm inclined to believe it. I change filters every 5,000 miles and AMSOIL every 25,000 or 1 year. I'm thinking about switching to SYNTEC and just changing it whenever the car says to. I'm near 6,000 miles with 30% left on the oil computer...but most of that is highway miles from a big roadtrip this summer. I'd say you'd be doing well just to obey what Mark tells you. OBD knows all. :D

You put 25,000 miles on the car before it gets fresh oil?!? Seriously?

Not quite. The year always comes before the 25k, so I change the oil every January and the filter every 5,000 miles (if it gets to 5,000). It usually equals out to one filter change (tops) throughout the year and 5-10k miles a year on the oil. I've run cars well upwards of 200k doing that. The Mark is just shy of 151,000 and shows no mechanical wear on the engine so far.

You jerkin' my chain?
He's not, look at your owner's manual. It tells you exactly how to reset the start oci percentage. Here ya go..if you need a owner's manual for free, go to www.flmowner.com and get one there.

noob question here, i did an oil change at home today, the car poured out 8 litres of oil which i was told is horrible to fill it up to the top, so i put 4.5l of oil in there noticed such a HUUGE difference.( car even lit it up in -3c cold start from just flooring it) reset the OBD or w/e its called and its telling me low oil level so i put .5 more litres and its still saying that. I ran out of oil but im afraid to put anymore in there, anyone enlighten me on what i should do please?

Use the dipstick?

If the level is correct on the dipstick, and the message is still coming up, then maybe the oil level sensor / harness is faulty.

There was 8 liters of oil in your engine? You're lucky it wasn't ruined.

They should hold 6-7 quarts no problem. My 96 Cobra always took 6.75 quarts and my 97 Mark always takes 6.25.

If you dumped 8 liters out then.... hell, I dont know that even if it spilled out the fill hole IDK if it could hold that much.

Typo I assume?

i have a 8 litre oil pan and it was over filling from the drain plug no joke i couldnt believe it, and the oil filter spilled out 1.2 litres. the guy who owned the car before did oil changes him self and i unscrewed the drain plug with my hand and same with the oil filter..
