'98 Transmission tailshaft play, please help!

Hello everyone! I haven't posted on here in a long time, but do check in occasionally. Hope everyone is great! >>>>> Anyways, I have a '98 Mark VIII transmission that I pulled from my '95 that was t-boned by a 92 year old lady. When I previously installed it into my '95, I noticed some slop when I spun the output shaft back and forth. When I drove the car, it would "clunk" whenever the driveline loaded and unloaded. It is definately not the u joints or rear end. The transmission was great otherwise.... J-mod, Mercon V, PI 3500 RPM converter, all new solenoids, aux tranny cooler and remote filter. Does anyone know what I can do or what I will need to fix this? I want to take care of the issue before I install it into my '96.
 
I thought about that, but it does not seem like the bushing is sloppy. I believe that it has something to do with the internals of the transmission, like worn splines or something.... I will be removing the tranny hopefully this week and will remove the tailshaft housing to see what else I can find. In the meantime, please chime in with any ideas. Thanks!
 
Splines don’t usually ware, I'm with kid on this, get one with a new bushing in it and try it out (how many total miles are on the Trans?)
 
I remember seeing a company advertising a replacement tailshaft housing, does anyone know where I can find one?

After I had my trans rebuilt it clunked when I put it in reverse. Still does. Same thing as above?:confused:

Could the spring mentioned in previous post, been left out on the rebuild or just very weak or broken?? My trans. also does a sort of jerk when it drops down / shifts from OD into D as I slow down, is this the spring again?:confused:
 
Very good chance your trunnion bearings are shot if the car has a lot of miles on it. You need to remove the drive shaft and replace both ends. Check and see how much play you have. (Lateral)
