Hello everyone! I haven't posted on here in a long time, but do check in occasionally. Hope everyone is great! >>>>> Anyways, I have a '98 Mark VIII transmission that I pulled from my '95 that was t-boned by a 92 year old lady. When I previously installed it into my '95, I noticed some slop when I spun the output shaft back and forth. When I drove the car, it would "clunk" whenever the driveline loaded and unloaded. It is definately not the u joints or rear end. The transmission was great otherwise.... J-mod, Mercon V, PI 3500 RPM converter, all new solenoids, aux tranny cooler and remote filter. Does anyone know what I can do or what I will need to fix this? I want to take care of the issue before I install it into my '96.

I thought about that, but it does not seem like the bushing is sloppy. I believe that it has something to do with the internals of the transmission, like worn splines or something.... I will be removing the tranny hopefully this week and will remove the tailshaft housing to see what else I can find. In the meantime, please chime in with any ideas. Thanks!

Splines don’t usually ware, I'm with kid on this, get one with a new bushing in it and try it out (how many total miles are on the Trans?)

I remember seeing a company advertising a replacement tailshaft housing, does anyone know where I can find one?

"There is an anti-clunk spring in the trans that acts like a spring for when coasting down on a 3-2 and 2-1. This spring could have lost it's tension or not be adequate for your setup." Quote JW

After I had my trans rebuilt it clunked when I put it in reverse. Still does. Same thing as above?

Could the spring mentioned in previous post, been left out on the rebuild or just very weak or broken?? My trans. also does a sort of jerk when it drops down / shifts from OD into D as I slow down, is this the spring again?

Very good chance your trunnion bearings are shot if the car has a lot of miles on it. You need to remove the drive shaft and replace both ends. Check and see how much play you have. (Lateral)
