4.10 gears

So i am wondering how bad they will effect cruising rpms and gas mileage...
Anyone have any advice? 98 lsc.
 
RPM's with gears:

They are very mild. If I had to do it again I would have stepped up to 4.30's. You will need a tune for the shift points and a one piece drive shaft. T-Lok is optional but recommended. You will lose 2-3 MPG but it is well worth it.

If your sticking with n/a and an auto trans 4.10s or more, with T-lok
Daily drive my 4.10s 80 miles a day average 21+ MPG.
I don't drive it "nice".
 
Hmm... why the need for a 1 piece driveshaft? Just wondering because I have 4.10 gears in the box.
Also,is a tune absolutely needed as the 1 piece to do this with?
 
the 1 piece driveshaft is to reduce the vibrations in the drivetrain. the 2 pieces are notorious for bad balance.
i think the tune is for shift points because the engine will rev faster and hit the rev limiter on stock shift points.
 
Actually, I believe with a stock tune and higher ratio gears, you will shift too early. My car has the stock gears with a 3.73 tune and it shifts late.
 
Thanks for the feedback Gentleman...this would be down the road but i was curious what you guys thought. in the near future is an xcal 2 as recommended on here. and then prob pulleys. anyone have used gen 2 pulleys?
 
4.10's at a min on N/A for sure. I still get vibs(70+mph) with my one piece DS I can only imagine what it would be like with the 2 pc DS!!

Its to my understanding that in these cars you will actually gain mpg unless you are highway driving.

I have a 4 inch DS and zero vibrations up to at least 110 (have not had it faster).

Speaking of tunes where does one look in there area for a shop that can do that?
 
i have a 1 piece steel driveshaft in my car, i think its from a bird, but i crossed the howard frankland bridge in tampa one night, the bridge is 7 miles long i did 137 across it i had more pedal but i was already nervous, no vibrations at all, but lots of state troopers sit in the breakdown lane, i wanted to push it more to see where it would top out but i was a pussy!
 
Man,the freakin pull a part trashed a 93 with the 1 piece the DAY BEFORE I showed up to get it. They would NOT let me pull it. I tried talking them into it but they INSISTED (morons) that the 94 was the same. So I gave them a rundown. Needless to say,he went to the computer,which was ALSO wrong.

I know they have a tbird there,I'll check it out. Thanks,Jamie.
 
Hmm... I have a SC steel shaft sitting in my collection.. I just may have to blast/paint/joint it.
 
apparently the 93 alum driveshafts are more desirable than a 94 or 95? im a relative noob when it comes to you guys.

correct. 93's have one piece aluminium driveshafts and are far less prone to vibration than the 94-98 two piece driveshafts.

they are the only year with a one piece shaft anything after is two pieces...I have 4.10's with a one piece shaft from a 93...i am vibration free till about 100 but get a some over 100...in hindsight I should have had the driveshaft balanced before I installed in the car. Alternative is to buy a aftermarket one piece from a vendor....the 2 piece shafts just were not made to handle the the 4.10 gear set up.
 
I should have had a D/S shop look at my 93 shaft also before the install.
I am good up to about 100mph.
You can also have a 4 inch shaft made up from your 2 piece D/S if you have a drive train shop close.
It might be cheaper then going to an outside vendor, check prices.
