Before you all scream... I did search. However in the 8 pages that came up, I found nothing useful, so I figured I would dredge up this question again.

Can 2nd gen mirrors be swapped on to a first gen car and wired to function as if still on a 2nd gen?

If so, point me in the right direction. Because to me, the mirrors on first gens are too close to the body of the car to really see anything very well. Kinda like a fox mustang...

Thanks!

the side mirrors right?
i believe they can. although none of the wiring is plug and play.

For a Gen 1, there are three main functions you need the Gen 2 mirrors to do. Puddle lamps, signal lights, and mirror controls. You won't be able to use the reverse mirrors that adjusts the mirrors down, as you have no way to turn the function on and off.

You're my hero Chris! I guess I didn't use the right combo of words or phrases!

Which I don't mind ditching. I just want better mirrors. Would be nice to wire up the defrost to the rear defrost button too!

Now I gotta find a nice set of mirrors on the cheap!

Don Pfau and Gman have Gen2 parts cars

And yea, the "rear view" is the one glued to the windshield, the ones on the doors are called "side view" :)

Close enough! Lol

It was midnight and I was tired when I typed this! Lol

I hate to ask what 2nd gen mirrors go for.

The tilt for the reverse lights can probably be duplicated with a signal from the reverse lights or reverse input signal in the pcm.

Reverse tilt isn't a huge concern w/ me but, if everything else goes smoothly, i'll try to see if I can get it to work. I've got a few leads on some mirrors.

people use the reverse tilt? first thing I did was turn mine off

The real question is where is the position of the mirror stored. I believe you would need the module that remembers the seat locations to be able to make this work, since it remembers the mirror locations and steering column tilt. I wouldn't even attempt making the reverse mirrors work in a Gen1 unless you just love frustrating projects.

This ^

I was going to attempt writing something like that last night before I went to bed, but I went to bed instead... :D

x2..More of a annoyance then anything.

I heard it really depends on the seat position in order for them to actually serve any type of purpose. Think they discused it over on lod a month or 2 back.

Yeah I am def. Not worried about the reverse mirrors.

I have a good idea of which wires im going to jump off of as well.

I do have a question for you 2nd gen owners though...

Do the puddle lights come on when you open the doors and lock doors/unlock doors with the remote? I am just trying to figure out all the functions so I know how to wire it

They come on when you unlock using the key fob, I'm not sure if they turn on when unlocking using the keyless entry pad.

They dont turn on when you lock the doors rather it be from the fob, switch or pad.

Oh, one more question...

You know the red and clear light at the back of the door panel?

Does that light up when you unlock the car w/ and w/o the fob/pad? I know it lights up when the door is open...

Id check but im at work

All the int lights turn on when unlocking useing the fob or pad.

+1

My reading lamps do not, but only because I cancelled them from coming on unless commanded at the switch

I want to get some super bright LEDs for my puddle lamps soon, even thinking about some hyper whites for my cornering lights.

Anyone use HIDs in highbeam on a Gen2?

Ok just making sure. I think those two lights could support the power needed for the puddle lights, the adjustablilty will obviously be tapped in to the original wiring for the mirrors. And I am going to jump the defrost off the rear window defrost...

Double check the timing on the defrosters, not sure if they are the same

Just don't want you to over heat your lens. :)

Overheat the lense? Which lense? On the mirror?

Im pretty sure the mirrors I may be getting wont have the auto dim lense on it

Yeah, now that I think about it, don't think you'll have a problem.. Good luck with the wiring...take some pics.. People obviously need write ups :)

Will def. Be doing that. I may not do the most professional job, but will do it the best I can.
