2nd gen rearview mirror swap

Take your time and do it right...because doing it right means doing it ONCE

Yeah I don't like doing things twice.... which is why my 88 mustang is still a shell on stands... lol

cool! keep going! thought about this before on my car. but then did other stuff. i've spent a lot of time before researching and hadn't found much info. you are blazing a trail! take pics.

I will def charge up my sony cybershot and get some good pics once I start. Im not the greatest at doing write ups but we'll see what I can come up with

I have 97 side mirror on mine....all though not wired up yet there attached and painted to somewhat match the car. There just in a useful position for normal driving till I can get everything wired. I looked in the book and all the mirror direction wires are the same colors on the two gens but you will have to wire up the blinker to a relay off your blinker and a relay off you foot well lights to run the puddle light. At least that is mine plan someday I’ll do this when I can invent more time. I’ll see if it can drag a picture up or two.

Mine where white 97 base lights that I got for $50, but you might pay more.

Ooohhhh purdy!!!!

Why would I need to wire them in to a relay?

I would assume the circuit could hold the power for the short period its in use.

And since the turn signals are LED's, they shouldn't draw much power. Only one that worries me is the defrosters

I also followed up on the youtube vid of the sequential turn signals for the taillights since its another mod im doing soon... and apparently the guy who originally did this said it draws like ten amps thru the brake light switch! And he has since then encountered multiple issuse. Im working on an idea of possibly adding a second sourse of power via a signal wire and relay to prevent the frying of the brake switch. That's another future mod

Current+Relay+Fuse=Safety Factor. I burnt one car to the ground, I don't need to make it two (it was a honda so it deserved to die).

I'm not worried about the defrost, car wont ever get driven in winter...at this rate though not get driven at all.....:q:q:q:qing tranny

Sequential turn signals on the mirrors would be cool! :D

Sequentials need high output LEDs wired into a dual voltage setup... Low voltage for running, high voltage for turn.

Hmm.... Micro controller, some code, odds and ends components, some 194
based LEDS... Hmm....

Why would I need to wire them in to a relay?

Always use a realy. It ensures the circuit is hot when it needs to be and off when it is not needed. As for wiring the puddle lights, you want to find the keyless entry module, and tap into the door trigger (+) wire. You need a test light to find it. All the interior lights work two ways on Gen 1's. When the unlock is pressed on the keyfob or the combination is entered; and when the door is open. If you wired the puddle lamps to just the courtesy lights, the puddle lamps would come on everytime you open the door. You don't want that.

Ok. Thanks Greg. I was under the impression that the puddle lights came on when the doors were opened

Where is the keyless entry module on a 93?

In the door...it'll be the box that the wires from the backside of the keypad go to

I thought the keyless entry module on the first gens was in the trunk (right by the air ride switch)?

Saw that one when I was searching. I've been busy as heck. Going out of town this week so I wont be able to mess with it much. Been pm'ing a few folks about mirrors. I think I am going to pick a set up off of Greg when I get back in town. If he still has em. Jay has been a trememndous help with his mirror refinish instructions. I just gotta sit down and review the wiring schematics once I have the mirrors
