Ok, neither one of these issues are a good sign at all. My car has 97,000 original miles so that's really low for a 93. I've seen my car's undercarriage, the engine, etc... it looks like it is no more than 8 years old. No rust, no grease, barely any dirt, etc... It was very well taken care of. However it appears today the skeletons start coming out the closet.
Engine noise:
When I started the car this morning, the first 2 seconds, I heard the valves knocking VERY LOUD until oil reached them. I'm not a freakin scientist but this isn't normal. I heard it inside the car wiht the windows up. I thought maybe it was a one time thing & when I started the car during lunch time (3 hours after initial start up) it didn't make the noise. So I was happy, I figured it would not happen again. 3 hours later when I'm leaving my office, I start my car & IT HAPPENED AGAIN! Same scenario, for about 1.5-2 seconds until the oil pressure reached the top. I had no choice but to drive to a client site about 8 miles away, then went straight home. I started the car about an hour later but it didn't make the noise again.
NOTE: Oil level is fine, oil is not burned, has about 1,000 miles on it.
Transmission (2nd gear slipping):
While I drove my car yesterday I noticed the tranny was acting a bit funny & today while driving to my client site I noticed it slipped from 1st to 2nd. As some of you know, this car is known for screaching the tire a bit from 1st to 2nd gear, well, it didn't it do it... rpm's went up a bit & it gradually rolled over to 2nd gear. It happened 3 times. Haven't used the car much after that but it hasn't done it again. I'm thinking of pouring some Lucas Tranny Oil into the tranny to remedy the situation until I can afford a used tranny. Any other suggestions?
