Hi everyone!

Im new to the forums and id like to say this site is full of great stuff! Im glad i joined!

But my question is how hard is it to install HIDs in an LS? I just ordered some Xenon 8000K HIDs and they should be here in a few days and was just wondering if there is anything i should know about hooking them up before i dive in and start? Anything i might need to have to help the install go smooth besides for the HID kit itself?

My LS is the V8 model but i dont think that matters but thought id throw that in anyway.

Time and patience. You don't want to seal everything back up just to realize you forgot something or it doesn't work. Welcome.
 
I would say it kinda depends on the kit, some plug right in, some need adapters (harness) some need relays, you wont really know until you get them in and get started. and you wont ever really know if you need a relay until the very end when they either work or they dont...
 
My DDM setup was simply plug and play.. 5 minute install in the driveway
 
i used the ddm tuning hid kit and it was really simple. hardest part was drilling a hole in the cover in back of the headlamp behind the low beam bulb. otherwise quick install.
 
you have to drill a hole because there is a cap that seals the back of the housing, and you need to run wires from inside at the harness to ballast outside, then run the high voltage wires back into the housing.

in the picture above, you can see the grommet on the wiring that seals up the hole you drill


i just used a uni/step bit to drill the hole




my DDM kit would only flash, they would not stay on until i added a relay to the wiring.
 
I just got them in today and it looks to be a simple plug and play set up...but then again I won't know for sure until I go to install them...and we just got 4 inches of snow here in Michigan so I'm not sure when I will be able to face the weather and do it :/

Weird.. I didn't have to drill any holes or add any relays?
 
1st gen housings are way different, the bulbs can be accessed through the back, ours have a access panel that needs to be removed to get to the bulb

I'm going to be installing it tomorrow, I have a friend with a heated garage he is going to let me use.
 
Oh yea, I forgot its cold in most parts of the nation this time of year. I put mine in today, 6K's from Zenex (Amazon.com). Drilling the access hole was pretty easy with a step bit, and luckily mine powered right up without a relay. Got a little click through the radio when turned on, but I can deal with that.

There's a great spot on each side of the radiator to mount the ballasts. When removing/reinstalling the headlight assemblies, be VERY patient and easy with the screws and clips and you won't lose any.

Here's where I drilled the 25mm holes:

i just mounted the ballast and the ignitors (DDM slim) to the bottom of the light where the factory ballast go, then all of the wiring for the relay was done to the factory wiring so that the headlight are still self contained and you can just unplug the factory harnesses to remove the housing if needed
 
What would your opinions be on yellow fog lights? Or should I go for the same color as my head lights, 8000k?
 
Actually, I have been having that same constant internal struggle... 6ks to match the headlights or 3ks to stand out. However, I kind of feel like the yellow fog thing belongs to those ricers.
