On the way to work last Saturday morning, a young punk in a fartcan hit me head on around a sharp s turn. The cops were about 10 seconds behind him. He was traveling around 50 mph while I was driving around 20 mph. His car was destroyed and he was badly injured. I never had a bump, bruise or scratch. This was the second car chase this jerk was involved in and he had no license or insurance. The only damage was located in the direct front of the LS (grille, bumper lights and hood) and the fenders weren't even damaged. Kudos to Lincoln for building such a safe vehicle. But.... the front crossmember behind the bumper and the frame rails absorbed the shock and my insurance company totaled the car. SUCKS!!!

My LS was a 2000. I had the same problems that everyone on the forum seems to complain about. Window regulator, leaky valve covers damaging the coils, faulty environmental control, delayed shift into reverse, etc, etc.... But....I loved the car and it saved my ass, so I'm looking at another LS. I test drove a few 2002 models and a 2003. Now my question....were the notorious problems that I mentioned above fixed in the 2002 and later models? I just don't wanna go down that road of expensive repairs again. I'm hoping they fixed these bugs.

My 2003's been great in the year and a week I've owned it.

Glad to hear you're ok. Sorry to hear about the car, but thankfully it saved your keester. Good luck in the search for a replacement.

You did shoot the bastard right? Ya know, put him out of your misery? :p

Sucks about the car. If it was me I'd sue for every cent he's worth and at least get SOME compensation out of it. This will just end up costing you more in the long run if your insurance goes up because you had to file a claim.

The more I read these accident threads and hear about how well the LS' involved are holding up, the safer I feel in mine. Which is a good thing, because I've almost come pretty close to getting mine smashed by the idiot drivers around here several times.

Lets put it this way. His car door was wide open as he was rolling around his front seat. I pulled him outta the car and had my way with him. The officers didn't stop me and were in no hurry to interfere with me. They said I had him under control. I told them to shoot him while he was rolling around on the curb as I walked away. Now, I'm not a violent person, never been arrested or anything like that, but, when I noticed the three squad cars pull up and learned the real situation, I totally lost my temper. This is a very quiet and residential neighborhood with many children and I moved here only two weeks ago.

Sue him? The punk has nothing, not even a job. The insurance company will sue him and I'll get the first $500 (my deductible amount) if they happen to get any money outta him at all. He'll probably file bankruptcy anyway. He's still sitting in jail as we speak.

I'll be looking at another LS today. I just wanted to know if some of the bugs in the 2000 were corrected in the 2002 and later models. :)

well you want to look at the 03 and up models the 02 is the same as what you had
my 04 has been great
good luck

lol... that's how i thought it sounded too.

seriously though, that sucks. i can't imagine if that would happen to me. i have a 5 month old son that's with me wherever i go. i would've killed the bastard...

hey, at that point you knew he was goin to jail; I see you reason you didn't have the right to pop his "cherry"... you know, break him in for the big house a little bit. It's not my thing, but hey brotha... more power to ya!!!

All of the problems were solve 03-up. Aside from the VCG's that is... some of the 03's (mine) had the old gaskets. Otherwise, great car!

I'm leaning towards the 2003, but I found a heck of a deal on a 2002 that I just might purchase because the possible repair costs might be cheaper than buying a 2003. I might wait till the first week of January to make a purchase when I get a little more time. I figure the dealer might be more anxious to make the sale at that slow time of the year anyway. Thanks gentelman for your replies!!!!:D

Sorry to read about your accident. Glad to see you are okay and not hurt. Hope they through the book at the idiot.

I've had great luck with my 02. Never a problem so far. Only oil changes a few A/C filters front brakes around 65k and just did rear brakes at 80k. Radio controls acted funny for a little while but work fine now. Haven't had the VC gasket problem yet, but I know its coming.
