My turn...Fender Bender.

Why would it need to be flatbedded?

It was lifted up from the rear, with the parking brake disabled and attached to his rig from the rear tires. The front tires were the only ones rolling and he was trying to moved from a covered parking spot in my apt complex. Side swiped the corner of a chrome truck bumper.

I guess if i would have requested a flatbed this wouldint have happened. They are much safer. I just didn't want to run the vehicle without a V-Belt.

I know the LS doesnt have a steering lock....it was only towed for 6miles.

In the manual it says never to tow it without it being flatbedded. They even have pictures lol.

Yeah because people tow it incorrectly.

As long as everything is done right it doesnt matter. This incident had nothing to do with the way it was towed. The Flatbed would have hit the vehicle instead though.

I was never really clear on why the manual said that so its good to know! Thanks Black and good luck with your car. It's a shame to see such a nice car look like that.

DAMN!!!! I would've been pissed. Hope you work everything out.

You know whats kinda sad?

Most of the regular members have been in a wreck of some sort.

Andrizzle had front end, Alax7 you had rear end damage right? T-money takes the cake. And now me with fender damage.

Gotta love it.

Sorry to see this black. I hope she gets all fixed up soon and back on the road!

And to mirror what everyone said. No flatbed necessary it's not like we are dealing with AWD. Though if I ever had to get mine towed anywhere I would force them to bring a flatbed for mine and watch carefully as they try to get it on there.

Why was it being towed? You said maintenance right? So why not drive it, at least out of the spot. Somethings not adding up.

Yeah im aware....because of the minor damage i think it will be ok to just do a cash deal.

I personally think that's a bad idea. You could get screwed over, plus if it happens to someone else there's no record to show a pattern of problems with the company.

It cost about $2500 to have a fender replaced, front bumper pulled and refinished, and a headlight replaced on mine. I would guess that just the fender was around $1500.

There's a reason the ENGINEERS that designed the car say to use a flatbed. I would trust them over forum advise any day.

Yeah i have learned from this experience.

Theres nothing fishy at all. I didnt want to drive the vehicle without a serpentine belt. Yes i should have drove it out of the spot that was my bad. But its not my fault that the tow driver misjudged it and its not my fault for the damage either.

Yeah we are going through insurance instead.

Theres nothing i can see that would require the use of a flatbed. The car is not AWD. As long as the drive wheels are off the ground it can be towed with a dolly.

Flatbed for sure next time.

Talk about bad luck! Hope all goes well. I have a scrap yard near me with a dozen or more donor LSs if I need parts. Most are V8s no motors & most have center consoles stripped out.

Since the steering wheel does not lock it should have be locked down so the front wheels would not steer. With pivoting front wheels there could have been some fishtailing on turns which is why it hit the other car.

That's the reason for the flatbed.

Thanks for the info.

The driver did tie down the steering wheel though.

But anyways i picked the vehicle up today. Drives just fine and nothing is out of whack. Now to work on getting the repairs done.

I got 1, it has a small dent that may be livable for U, I haven't posted it 4sale

but It may work 4 you

passenger side fender

I can send pix price $100 + shipping:cool:

PM if interested

Damn man, I know how it feels lol. Just be happy it's not anything worse like mine was. Oh well picked up on a loaded 03 today over my 02.

Ahh I see I was unaware the belt broke, based on the thread I thought you were just replacing as preventative maintenance. When it actually went to get repairs. Maintenance implied that nothing was wrong with the car thus me questioning you towing it. Sorry

Nothing that a plunger wont fix! :shifty:
But in all seriousness... that sucks. Incompetent towing companies these days :Bang

Update.

Body shop is sourcing a used fender. The guy agrees that an aluminum fender would be better. Should be in the shop this next coming week and back in a couple days after that.

He is gonna look over the fender and make sure it its straight and he has all the materials ready and then i will drop it off so im not stuck without a car for a couple weeks.

Update time!

Worst pictures ever...better pics to come later:

Yup!

Fender is a used oem (which i prefer over a new steel) and the paint is ppg.

Molding did not need to be replaced and the door was repaired also, very hard to tell it was worked on unless you really look for it which is fine by me its not a show car.

Overall im very happy with results so far. Gonna let the paint cure and look for a place to do a nice paint correction. But before that need to take care of some maintenance. Time to overhaul my cooling system.

I would have no issue with used oem. Makes sense in my book.
