got a new (to me) headlamp today and it was in expected condition. Faded,bad. so,i break out the mothers powerball and in 15 min. voila!

you really dont need to wetsand unless its scratched or reeeeaaaaallllllyyy faded and wont come back. its good enough to last until i paint it.

I didn't say you needed to I said if you want it to look really good.
I have done many of them and yes to look really good you do need to wet sand when restoring one like that.
 
I used that powerball kit a few weeks ago myself and needed to use the included sandpaper to clear it up more. At the end it really looked great. But there are some spots that are in the inside of the housing so I will need to rip them apart later in the future.

when you take it apart,DO NOT touch or try to clean the chrome,it will wipe right off.
 
nice job, +1 for having the old school xbox

thats my workshop/office,the balcony of the condo. the x box works andive got another in abox. the ps3 is in the house. cant bring myself to play madden after the collapse in superbowl, well its almost baseball time. oh yea, the other collapse.
 
Wet sanding and buffing will make it look brand new. You did make a big difference but wet sanding and buffing would be night and day compared to how it is now
