Alternative to HID headlights?

Here lately I've been reading a lot up on putting HID lights in a halogen housing and hearing about all of the glare concerns me, so I was just kind of wondering if there was an alternative route that people have took other than installing HIDs? Thanks in advance!
 
I dont believe the "glare is an issue... I drive past plenty and even driven behind mine... Its not the problem it use to be... There are many more "brighter" oem set ups out there now ... the only really other set up you can run is getting the OEM projector headlights... but can be pricey
 
Yeah it's not really the brightness I'm looking for, I just like the crisp clean white light they give out. But from what I've seen they don't have oem projectors for the ls. << Nevermind on that last statement.
 
well Kelvin range is what you should be focusing on then... I run 55w 6000K in a halogen housing... It has a nice white/bluish light that "illuminates" better than my stock high beems... If your looking for "crisp light Quality/ distance" than you cant beat projectors, but if its "crisp color" than you'll be fine with a HID kit...

If you dont want blue at all you can get a 55w 4300K HID thats pure white and "illuminates" a little further...
 
Sylvania Silverstar Ultra is what I used. It is a noticeable difference in a brighter white light for night driving.
HID with the right projector is a good alternative. Without the projector they scatter the light and cast glare at oncoming traffic. Wait 'til your over fourty trying to drive into that and see what it's like. Makes you want to hold there eyes into about 1,000,000 candle power and watch them stumble around blind after.
Anyway if you search a bit you can find some other makers of halogen bulbs that have products that get great reviews.

do you feel its worse than a projected bulb on lets say a cadillac or MB? I find those to be far worse if they hit you just right...anything more than a standard halogen at night (no mater what the setup) is going to be more annoying...whether its stock or not...
 
there will be a ballast box... but yes, most kits are plug and play...

Please try and be clear. Then you say anything more then standard halogens are going to be more annoying.

There is more glare with HID in halogen housings. It may bother some people more then others but it is definitely there.

Why people recommend 55W HID kits for halogen housing is beyond me. A 35W HID kit will produce a lot more lumens then any halogen bulb. 55w is overkill and will produce even more glare and scatering then a 35W kit.

You are correct in choosing the Kelvin range. 4300K is stock for all factory HIDs and is the closest to actual daylight. Up to about 6000K i still white enough where you don't lose much output. After that it gets to blue.

Most kits are plug and play like stated. I'm not sure about gen1s but if you have a gen2 there are covers over the back of the light socket. The HID kit will usually come with a rubber gromet. You will need to drill a hole in the cover to get the wires through and find a place to mount the balast.

I was merely stating that... yes, there will be glare using a HID kit in a halogen housing, but (IMO) no more than anything else on the road that is anything other than a normal halogen bulb in a halogen housing...I am not bothered by any lights on the road, no matter what the setup. but I understand some are more sensitive to it...

I can't say for sure as I never pulled one over to say hey M***** F*****. So my answer is just blind all the inconsiderate B*********. Let them feel the pain!

lol for sure... I guess i just feel in todays world / streets, people are getting use to alternative headlight setups... I suppose it all depends on where you live... (and age :shifty: ). I would not let it effect my decision on the matter. Go with the kelvin and intensity you see fit.. Plenty of us use HID in halogen housings

There are other options like Hoens and Silverstars. The down side to some of those type of bulbs are heat. They create a lot of heat to give off the HID color. I've never had good luck with Silverstars either. I was replacing them every 4 months with my Grand Prix or the LS.
