Going back to air

Today I started reconverting my car back to air. I put the compressor/dryer assembly back in and plugged up. I wanted to do a test to see if it turned on, but I didn't hear anything. Does the ride height sensors and solenoids have to be connected before it turns on?

Yes. The system does that start up test. If it detects a hard fault, it will error out. Since the system check the resistance of the sensors to determine height it will fault out right away if they are not there.

Only way to test compressor is via 12 volts or get the whole thing hooked up.

I abandoned the build. I lost interest. I sold the heads, and the short block is still for sale. As well as the cobra intake. I'm doing the "B" head intake instead.

I just finished putting the air bags back on. The car is on jackstands. I put the car on run, and I heard the compressor starting to run. It was only airing up the passenger front air strut. I forgot to put the ride height sensor back on the ball studs. After I did that I turned on the car again, but I didn't hear the compressor kick in this time. Will everything successfully air up with everything off the ground?

You need to get the car off the jackstands and the tires on the ground, but leave it jacked up a little lower than normal.

If it's slammed or too high, it might not start the compressor.

Unless the sensors are out of range, then no. Too high or too low, it will fault out. Been there, done that many times.

Ok, cool. The fronts are actually aired up now. Nothing in the rear. I'll put the tires back on, and see what happens.

you cant air the car up without damage if you have it jacked off the ground. put it back on the ground all the way unless you want your bags to explode.

As long as the rear is not jacked up at all. Otherwise how will the system realize its not at the correct height.

The rear sensor still has to "see" the rear is low. You "could" take the rear sensor loose and compress it....which will trick the module into thinking the rear is low...BUT YOU CAN ONLY DO THIS FOR A SHORT TIME. The more extended the rear bag is, the more angle there is on the bottom part of the bag.....and the higher the chances something will give!

If it were me, I'd put a floorjack under the pumpkin(yeah i know, but done it a gazillion times over the years), and lower the rear down. Not all the way down, just enough where the module will know its low.

Well the front aired up higher than the rear. Now I have to adjust the brackets to get the right stance now. Lowering the bracket in the rear will bring up the rear?

Raise the rear bracket to lower the car.....
