W3Z2 Question....

i took the limiter out of mine and was at 140 before i was coming up on traffic and had to let off.here in south florida everyone drives 80.i cruise at 100 all the time about 3000 rpm with the 3.27. when i switch to the 4.10 70 should be about 2500. i like cruising through traffic easily at 100, which is why i need the 4.10 to keep me slower on highway unless i need it.

Sold my Z4HO with the chip ... didn't really have anymore use for it. As my 94 is my winter car now.

Also needed some money for a motorcycle project I'm working on.

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooo! Damnit lol. I asked how much you wanted for it.

Sorry ... worked from the bottom up on the messages ...

I had to buy it, have wanted a chip since I got the Lincoln :D

You should be getting it today if not then Monday ... should be what you are looking for ... All you'll need to do is replace you ECU with the Z4HO that came with it and you are good to go. Should only take about 30 min if that. Don't forget to take off your battery cables when installing.

Haha, well let us know how how it goes! :D

It's cool, I will survive lol. Just got to be patient and wait again. :D

I really like the chip. My favorite thing about it besides the super fast shifts, is that it keeps the car in 3rd and out of overdrive till about 50 or so(only in the performance tunes). I can turn the dial to economy tune and it shifts nice and soft. Because of the ultra snappy shifts, I began to notice 1st gear may be slipping in the upper r's.

Picked up a w3z3 in the yard today. 2 93s there both z3. When the track reopens next year I'll do some testing. Granted I might have a z2 by then.

3/93 and 6/93 both had z3 and traction control

Where's Nolimit? Didn't he try both?

Yeah, I tried putting a W3Z3 into my 94 that had a Z4HO without TA. The 93 that the Z3 came out of would not start the 94. When I turned the key on, my cooling fan kicked on and the car would turn over and turn over but would never crank. I swapped them back and put the HO back in and it craned right back up.

Now, in the 95, I got a W3Z2 from Jamie and took out the DZA1 and I can tell a big difference and I am not limited. I have now hit 140 on one HWY run and 140+ on another. Problem is, I have a Samsung Infuse and going that fast and trying to make a video with that big ass phone scares the hell out of me. I never think to take my digital camera with me. I could do a video a lot easier with that than I could with the phone I have.

My gas mileage isn't as good as the DZA1 27-28 mpg HWY compared to the Z2 at 25-26 mpg on the HWY with cruise on at 70 mph.

The only other good thing that I know about the Z2 is that it has 15 psi more trans fluid pressure than the Z4HO or DZA1. The W3Z3 is also a quick PCM but I think all of them were with TA but not positive on that. Jamie said it didn't matter and he didn't know if the Z2 he sent me came out of a car with TA or not but guaranteed it would work and it did. All I can say is if you turn the key on and your cooling fan kicks on, forget it. The car will not start but this is based on a 94 Z4HO with no TA being replaced with a Z3 with TA. The Z2 might crank it right up with no problems. I can't say it will or won't for sure. I say go for it or take what you have and chip it.

Burning a tune on a chip is going to cost a lot more than the Z2 PCM, I do know that for sure. Good luck! BTW, if the Z2 doesn't work for you, it will sell with ease on here for $60+, if that info helps you any. Not like you would be losing anything.

Weird, because my W3Z2 and my Z4H0 were both limited to 130. 130 makes sense, as it's the limit of H speed rated tires.

Medium, you and Chris both have 4.10's and I don't see either of you reaching 140 unless you are wound out and going downhill. I have stock gears and this could be the reason I'm able to hit 140 but honestly, hitting 140 isn't something for me personally to brag about. That's just too damn fast for me. I already have anxiety and panic attacks as it is and going that fast is mind bending for me. 120 is about my limit and I have had enough. I only wanted the W3Z2 for the way it shifts from 1st to 2nd and it seems much stronger than the DZA1 I had. It commands 15 psi more trans fluid pressure than the other PCM's but so can all the others if chipped and programmed for it.

there's more in it. i lifted cuz my sunroof blew out.

+1 on other computers being comparable when chipped.
if i were to do it over, i wouldn't have bought a z2 at all and chipped my z3.

Sounds like you need a co-pilot. If you were close, I'd volunteer for the position! :D

The W3Z3 is also a quick PCM but I think all of them were with TA but not positive on that.

They did apparently make a few W3Z3's WITHOUT traction control, or at least I know of one. My '93 Mark VIII had the W3Z3 and no T/C.

The other day, I tried to figure out if my first parts car had T/C or not (it's a W3Z3), just for reference. I'm pretty sure it did, but I thought I was going to be clever and find the bezel that goes around the shifter and has the rear defrost and T/C switches in it to see if it had one or two holes for buttons. Of course, when I found it, I found 2 of those pieces in tan- one was from a T/C car, one was from a non-T/C car. I forgot I'd got another one of those pieces in a parts lot I bought off of E-Bay years ago. Still, I think my parts car was a T/C car.

As far as fuel economy, I know the W3Z2 is more aggressive than the W3Z3, but I got GREAT gas mileage with my W3Z3. It wasn't unusual for me to get 30-32 sustained MPG cruising on the interstate (according to the MPG readout on the dash; I never manually calculated it) as long as I kept my lead foot out of the gas too much. Of course, on the flip side, if I drove it hard on country roads or the streets, it would drop down to 19 MPG or so.

True, however I was talking about with stock gears. With 4.10s, it would do about 97mph thanks to the output shaft speed limiter. Right now my car tops out at exactly 0mph, but with the QuarterHorse it should be capable of about 180 with 4.10s and 285/40/18s at 6500rpm.

Sorry about the bump....Tonight, my stock Mark with the Z4HO topped at about 132...doesn't sound right does it? Lol I was surprised it kept going!

I am hoping my Z2 I found in the junkyard in a 12/92 build date Mark doesn't have a speed limiter.... it had traction assist too... so should work out for me. Although my Z3 didn't have a speed limiter... heres to hoping. Lol

Check the ford part number, look for an F2 (92) prefix.
then check for the W3Z2 catch code
the F3 PCMs with W3Z2 and W3Z3 aren't "the ones".

Jesse, you now have the right PCM if it is showing the 92 date.

Yeah every part on the car I got my dash from has F2 date codes, and actual dates either printed or written on them. I got lucky. I told the JY to hang on to the car. It had 247k and was in particularly good shape except for a few things. Had JBL and moonroof

yes, it was flat. no, i can't prove that.
4.10s. chipped w3z2.

No need to try and prove it. I believe it with it being chipped especially.

And up there "wanting to be a co-pilot" lol. It's really not the speed that scares me. It's the fact that I have to watch out for the numerous state troopers in my area and going that speed and already having a speeding ticket on my record. I surely don't need one going that fast. The state has about 5 different vehicles over here and you would never guess they were troopers AND THEY WILL CATCH YOU.

So what's the deal on the F3 W3Z2's? I thought as long as you had a Z2 you were golden. What's the difference between a F3 Z2 and just your regular W3Z3?

Interesting read. I knew someone with a 93 or 94 who claimed they went 140 mph and I never believed them, but I guess it is possible with the right computer. And yeah, a chip pretty much limits you to rpms and wind resistance. I've gone over 140 mph with my 98 chipped. Never again. I was probably approaching 150-155 mph with the 4.10s and god knows what rpms my driveshaft was spinning. Probably 10K rpms. LOL
