hey guys, the windows in my mark where left down last night... (last time i ever give the keys to my mom :mad: ) and it rained.... i had about a inch of water on the floor in the back. so i need your help what do i do?!?!

i shop vac'ed all the water on top out... but what is the best thing to do... its still wet!
 
Get that sh!t out!

Remove the seats and get the carpet out and dry it out in the sun.

Vacuum out any other water. If your seat tracks stay wet, they're gonna ruussstttt...
 
i see disassembly in your future.. you gotta dry that carpet.

at least pull the seats out until the carpet dries.
 
Best thing to do is to pull carpet, but in a pinch pull up as much carpet as you can and get fans to blow air in there till dry. You should first vacuum like you did then take towels and step on them hard into carpet. This will wick out alot of water then the fan thing.
 
Oh my. You need to remove everything ASAP. The water will sit well below the padding for some time. I hydro-locked my Mark years ago. A full YEAR after sitting in a garage getting a new engine, I pulled back the rear carpet and still had standing water. Really hard to believe, but there is was. And that was a case of going in water deep with floor plugs popped out. Probably not as much water as you. I would get some shop lamps, the halogen ones that produce good heat or some other method to warm up the interior.

I would also recommend some WD40 on the seat tracks and any exposed metal to reduce the possibility of rust. After all, that is what WD40 is for!

You may even want to pop the door panels to make sure the doors dont have standing water, they may.

+1 ASAP!!! Dude, the small sacrifice of unbolting 8 bolts on your 2 seats & 4 screws in your center console is waaayyyyy worth it. Otherwise you will end up selling your car because it will smell like wet, sweaty, dirty, cheesy socks for the rest of eternity! :slam I hate it when that happens!... Did I take it too far? :p If you think so, leave it like that, wait 3,4 days, see if my description isn't right on the money!
 
BTW WD-40 is not a good long term antirust treatment. Try coating something cast iron thats clean and see how fast it rusts up.

I'm just letting peeps know that its not a rust protector which alot of peeps think it will do. I thought it would but learned. So would it be better that I not try to warn peeps or should I just not say anything?

Well if you dont recommend Water-Displacement Formula 40, what do you recommend for an emergency rust preventative?
 
Any thing but wd40 lol. If you reread my post I NEVER stated what you where posting as lie. I was just letting peeps know wd40 is not something for long rust preventive. Did I state a lie? I just can't understand some of you guys thoughts. You just pick out any and everything to bicker about. man.
 
Time is ticking away.

+4 on taking the carpet out.

Mold starts to grow within 36 hours.

yep, as soon as i posted the thread i got off my ass and started tearing down the interoior... cant put it in the sun because its going to ran for the next 4 days :(

anyone have a set of ivory front seats? ive bin wanting to swap mine for a while.

seats center console and carpet are out. drying carpet in my room now :D

good job. Do you have a garage? Get it out there with fans on that thing don't just let it sit. Jute holds water like you would not believe. And when you think its dry, dry it out for 1 or 2 MORE days!
 
yea i have it in my room with 3 fans pointing at it!

going to be a little while before i drive her again... :(

If you have to drive her just put seat back in and drive. I had to strip out the whole interiour out of my f150 because of dead mouse smell. I just have front seat in.
 
LOL, thats a good idea! but i need all me seats. so ill just start driving the other mark LOL.

damn i love having 2 :)

Damn! That time of the month? It was an honest question. Since WD-40 is what IS recommended, and you claim its not, I was just asking what then you recommend? I thought maybe you knew of a superior product. Wow.

Sorry hard to tell peeps tones over the net! White lithuim grease spray lube. Stays put and covers.
 
We use the lithium grease on all of our hinges and such at work. 80% of the generators I work on are outside and the rain does a number on metal parts when the paint starts peeling.

Glad you got the carpet out in time. Hit it with a pet odor removal powder in a few days. It will help take out the mildew smell without adding moisture.
 
i dont think i will have too much of a problem. after i pulled up the carpet i realized how non sever it was. there was no water threw the carpet. and the underside of the dampener was dry as a bone :D

carpet is already dried out. so all in all i learned how to remove the interior. :D
