Anyone know anything about this Code reader?

other people on here seem to have good luck with it. it isn't necessary, but not like its's expensive.

edit: only works on odb1. 93-95 marks.

What about this one for a 97 Mark that uses OBDII codes?
Amazon.com: XiTech XR-90 Advanced OBD2 Code Reader: Automotive

I bought an elm327 USB and it would not work. I need something cheap because Im constantly working on my car and everytime I fix one check engine light another comes on. The guys at autozone are sick doing it. They make me wait at least 30 minutes before helping me.

I'm looking for an inexpensive code reader. Does this do it. One brand, maybe it's Acton requires you to pay them a monthly fee to be able to get what the codes mean.

Get a tuner for your car. XCal II. Then you can also read and clear codes.

Why the bump what else do you want to know about it it works and can be bought for about 30 bucks, comes with a codes definition book. What more do you need?

My question was is the better unit worth the $32 more? Are these good units?

My question is:

Why don't you just TELL us what year your Mark is? and get it over with! Gen I or Gen II?

The Equus 3145 in your first post is for OBD-I computers --- pre-1996 cars in the U.S.... and YES, it's a "good unit".

The two in your other post (#10) are for OBD-II computers --- 1996-and-newer cars.

Equus is a well-known name in code readers, and the 3145 I bought from Amazon works just fine on my '94... it even does a cylinder balance test.

If you have a Gen I Mark and just want to read codes or figure out which cylinder is missing, go for it.... hell, I can piss away 22 bucks just being 15 minutes late for a service call.

I knew I should have just kept my mouth shut in the first place, but...

Yeah, I see the grill... barely.

IMO, if someone wants help, they should make all the conditions clear up front. I may be a n00b here, but been hanging around internet forums for ~15 years.

If I'm inclined to answer someone's question, why should I have to put on my reading glasses, stand up and get right up on my monitor, and squint at a small, low contrast black-and-white photo to determine a fact that the OP could easily have (and should've) stated in the first post?

So is it a gen I or II? I still can't tell.

Presbyopia sucks...

First I was just fuggin around so wipe the sand away.

It an LS.

:p

Thanks for clearing that up.

No sand here... sometimes I'm just too "talk-ey" ;)

OP, good luck on your reader purchase.

But you have a purdy mouth.

Scanners with "features" are just gimicks. I just want a scanner that will read the code. Plan and simple. I dont want to pay more than $25 either.

A working USB scanner will own every single handheld scanner on the market. I just dont want to take another risk buying one that wont read on the Mark.

The elm 327 worked great on my Chevy Aveo and Ford Windstar van. It **** on me when I hooked it up to the Mark.

I have the "orange" scanner that every parts store carries. It has worked on everything no problems. I bought the middle of the line one. It does have nice features. I can watch all sensors live time. TPS ,O2's all that stuff. Plus it lets me know if car is obd2 ready. (inspection) They all have them down pat now and the price has dropped big time. The orange one now combines the obd2 reader and the ABS reader in one. I bought both these before they combined them.

Please bear with me, as I have another question. How useful would it be to have the ABS codes and transmission codes read as well. I have a chance to get one with this included.

Your car does have ABS so why not get one with all the goodies and never buy or worry not having the right reader? FYI My ABS reader only reads American cars.
