I have the chance to get a 9.5 3500stall TC from a supercoupe guy. The question i have is with my current mods(listed in sig) will this be a proper TC to go with, and if so what should i expect from changing to a new TC(i.e. harder launch, decreased quarter mile time, etc.)

Also should i get a tune afterwards to compensate for the higher stall.

Get that sucker and make sure you got some sticky back tires. You will need them.It will give you a harder launch , if you can hook it. Who makes it ? How many disc? I have been adding all my mods on the same burn of a used chip I bought with not knowing real info iin chip. ( A diablo chip)

I also just found out it is a dirtydog convertor... Are they any good and is anybody else running one?

I say do it. I'm running a 3500 stall with just a canned tune and 4.10s. And the guy who built my tans knows Alan at DD and recommends him and I'm pretty sure my buddy with a FI Mark is running one.

I'm sure someone here will chime in soon with an anti-dirtydog comment and a pro-circle d comment. IMO Alan is a stand up guy, I enjoy my DD torque converter. It amazes me how biased some forums are compared to others. Go to one and circle d is crap and dirtydog is gold, go to another and dirtydog is crap and circle d is gold. They both make good products.

LOL I was waiting for the same thing to happen.

Alan rebuild/swapped my trans in my '93 for me after it dropped a gear. Took an '03 GT trans that I bought, and my '93 trans and made them in to one. then restalled a lower mileage stock converter that he had got from Bill @ SCP and installed it. Car ran and shifted great.

IMO he knows what he's doing. You should see the 4R70W converter project he's cooking up now. It's sweet.

I'm running a Dirty Dog 3800 in mine... some confusion on the install.. but after that..WOW! The car will drive a little differently.. more so at low speeds under light exceleration. But kick it in the butt and.. HOLD ON!
You won't do wrong with a DD TC

i also just found out it is a NON-locking convertor. What does this mean and what how is it different form a locking convertor? Also would a non locking convertor hurt my MPG more than a locking convertor?

I don't think you want a non-lockup converter with a Mark VIII. The fuel mileage will definitely be less and the heat will be more.

I was thinking the same thing. I am very happy with my Circle D unit but have spoken to Alan and have nothing negative to say about him.

a non locking on the street will boil the trans fluid and burn up your tranny real quick, thats a track convertor not meant for the street.

You can run one on the street if your transmission is properly built and you have a good cooler but I would not run one in a Mark VIII meant for street duty. I ran one in my 90 LX but it was set up more for the track and only weighed 2900 lbs.

I did not know stock TC's can be restalled. what is the typical cost of this vs buying a new one?

Did you read my 9.5 inch converter posts? A converter is a converter. It matters what is done on the restall just bending fins and or a stator change. Stators cost money.

I am also a huge Circle D supporter... I have just personally seen 3 DD converter die in 50 miles in brand new transmissions...

well guess ill pass on it then. I Guess my next step is going to be a tune. unless some one has a cheap cobra intake with all the accessories
