Door combination

2nd gen you DO NOT need two remotes to program others.

You are correct. I must have had a brainfart and was thinking keys while typing fobs.

When I got my car. It came with one key and one fob.

I bought new ones of both from eBay.

Programming the fob was as you say and easy.

Programming the key required a trip to the dealer. Cost me $100 to program the new key and get the keypad code.

My mistake.

I do believe that he was talking about keys, and not remotes. The statement is true for keys for gen I or II.
2nd gen you DO NOT need two remotes to program others.

From the 2004 OWNERS MANUAL:

Replacing lost remote entry transmitters

If you would like to have your remote entry transmitter reprogrammed
because you lost one, or would like to buy additional remote entry
transmitters, you can either reprogram them yourself, or take all
remote entry transmitters to your authorized dealer for
reprogramming.

How to reprogram your remote entry transmitters
You must have all remote entry transmitters (maximum of four)
available before beginning this procedure.
To reprogram the remote entry
transmitters:
1. Ensure the vehicle is electronically unlocked.
2. Put the key in the ignition.
3. Turn the key from the 1 (LOCK) position to 4 (RUN).
4. Cycle eight times rapidly (within 10 seconds) between the 1 (LOCK)
position and 4 (RUN). Note: The eighth turn must end in the 4 (RUN)
position.
5. The doors will lock, then unlock, to confirm that the programming
mode has been activated.
6. Within 20 seconds press any button on the remote entry transmitter.
Note: If more than 20 seconds have passed you will need to start the
procedure over again.
7. The doors will lock, then unlock, to confirm that this remote entry
transmitter has been programmed.
8. Repeat Step 6 to program each additional remote entry transmitter.
9. Turn the ignition to the 1(LOCK) position after you have finished
programming all of the remote entry transmitters.
10. The doors will lock, then unlock, to confirm that the programming
mode has been exited.

Well, those instructions were for a gen 2. You have a gen 1.

Gen I = 2000 to 2002

Gen II = 2003 to 2006

For Gen I, you do have to go to a dealer or you need to have a good scan tool to program remotes.

Can't find ANYTHING on my '02 Sport

I looked everywhere for the code, and not only did I not find it, I can't even find the keypad. The door is just a blank by the door handle!!!

Bought mine used, don't know the code for the door, don't care enough to pay $100 to know it either lol. There is a slip of paper in my OM with four numbers on it but I tried it and it didn't work. Oh well, that's what fobs and keys are for lol. I do only have one key though so I'm gonna have to pay to get another :(.

Still can't get over the fact that the code is nowhere to be found inside the car somewhere... What was Lincoln thinking?

That they could make a quick buck by forcing people to go to a dealership to get the code lol.
