130mph will.
 
at 25mph the chances are very slim.

at 130mph its damn near impossible to survive.

Ive been in a 25mph impact and wasnt even scratched and the car didnt have airbags and i was side swiped.

Also, this is an age old debate that will never be answered.. My only premise to this argument, is why would the government mandate a whopping 155mph speed governor?

I also wish I could derive a very basic equation for how much HP is required to achieve this..
 
Not debating anyones right to have it or anyones need for speed, I use to ride motorcycles and I stayed gunning it. But if there's no place we can legally use the power and it's so inherently dangerous and such a drain on natural resources why make it available? It would make more sense if the speed limit was muh higher on the interstate. Every commercial shows cars zipping around and careening around corners but there's a disclaimer at the bottom and if you actually use that speed you stand a good chance of hving problems with the law. And police talk about how dangerous high speed chases, but that's an easy thing to eliminate if no one can out-run a police car. Don't get me wrong, I completely understand why a person would WANT a fast car.

two weeks ago, i was with one of my co-workers while he was maxing out his evo, made it all the way up to 172 (by GPS) before it stopped climbing any higher and it didnt feel like that at all, the acceleration just got slower and slower until it reached a certain point and it just held steady (the same as my mark did) which is nothing like what the OP described.

my 1st gen (v6 non sport) did the exact same thing as described (much lower than 133) and you could tell that it was a limiter instead of drag, because as soon as it dropped down a little, it started pulling hard again, a car that is being stopped by drag would not behave the same way. as the forces pushing on the car would grow, the acceleration would slow down until the point that the car would stop accelerating. there would not be that much different amount of drag to where the car would feel like it was pulling hard at 141 then one mile an hour faster hit a magic wall of force that would knock it back down. i have maxed out a lot of cars that have been speed limited and i have maxed out a lot of cars that have been drag limited, it is very easy to tell the difference between the two.

Sorry quick, they must have forgot about the v6 Manual I guess, but it ain't true. Engineers aren't always right, even if they did built what they are talking about.

Nope, the engine shut off, felt like I completely pulled my foot off the throttle then mashed it again, that's not drag limited, that's an electronically limited. My town car did the same thing, except at about 110. My fusion, being TBW, would just level out at 112 until I tuned it then it was drag limited to 127, it was the 2.3 i4.
 
put it up on jackstands and mash the pedal - beatcha it goes over your 150...

and make sure to video it... ;)

If I could be on a rolling dyno I'd do it, but that just sounds more unsafe then driving 140. But if it didn't mess with the speedo reading, it'd stop early. I know what drag limited verses electronically limited feels and sounds like, and it wasn't drag limited.

The danger is if the differential doesn't evenly split power to the free wheels, one of them may spin much faster than 150 and fly apart. (At what would be 100 MPH, you could have one wheel going 200 and the other 0 or any combination in between.)

Yea, it wouldn't take much friction on one wheel to cause this either. My tires are rated to 168MPH, so yea, not fast enough it it spins 300MPH :eek:

BUT, I just went out a made the video of the limiter in action. Will post to youtube in a few minutes and will link to it.

This way everyone can see, and if they still don't believe, well I guess all the better I could do is if you fly to me and I'll take you for a drive.

this is exactly what im saying, ive experienced drag limited, and it feels totally different.

my 1st gen (non sport) would top out at 122-123 (yes it had the correct sized tires) so that is another 1st gen that doesn't follow that rule.
 
Around here where I live you are doing good to hit 100 before you run into traffic, turns, stoplights, cops, etc. Plus when you start going that fast all the slow stupid people start doing dumb things like merging into your lane.

To each their own, but if I wanted to know that I could get away from someone, I'd focus my energy on being able to take a hairpin turn at 60 instead of having a 150mph car. The only place around here where you could even hope to achieve a speed like that is the interstate.

But I just have to ask. In what scenario do you see the need to be able to escape and/or evade a pursuer enough that you need to have a 150+ mph car? Thinking of getting into NASCAR the old-fashioned way? Watched "Gone in 60 Seconds", "Canonball", "Bullet", or "Transporter" recently? Do you have an "AKA" listed next to your name on your police record? LOL :)

It's all good fun man.

That road doesn't have an cross traffic for 5 miles.

I don't HAVE to have a car that goes 150, but I want it. I don't have to have a drink tomorrow, but I will because it's my birthday.

And no, I don't have an AKA(that the cops know of :shifty: ) :D

Of course it hits a limiter. You hit the rev limiter, not a speed limiter. Check the RPM in the video. Plus, your airbag light is on.
 
You can see the tech needle, it you pay attention right before it hits the limiter I shift to 5th. It's the angle of the camera.
 
You can see the tach, at :52 I shift to 5th, about 138MPH from that angle. It's about 5800RPM when it hits the limiter. My tack is reads 200 RPM high, I can verify this with another video if you want, but it's going to have to wait a few hours as I'm watching my kids.

I sit corrected......

Maybe the airbag (failure) light triggers a limit? Just grasping here. I was there with Lou when we were told about the limiters. Having access to the actual LS engineers was priceless!
