JBL system mark viii. Sound comes out of both right speakers without issues, but not either left speaker. Balance is fine...and if I shift it over to the left speakers, I can barely hear a little sound.

anyone know what gives here? Bad stereo...bad something else??

bad factory amp, its in the trunk under the package tray, common problem with the jbl audio.

ah....OK..I was hoping for something farely simple like that...I'm hoping it's an ebay trip away from a good used amp..thanks much!

how much do you want for one?? I'd really like to use my own head unit and amp that I already have...but I'm not sure I want to bother with a re wire right now

yea, jamie what do you want for an amp. i need to replace the one in my Mk. im getting a HI pitch squealing coming from my speakers. when ever i hit the brake the pitch gets higher, and when i turn on my turn signal it interfears... ill go make a video for you if you have no idea what im talking about....

or would it be easer to put in a new after market amp?

anyone know the prices at junkyards?? They're $60-70 on ebay.. a little more imo than what I think they're worth

i have all aftermarket in my car, i dont care for the stock crap, then again i have always been into sweet systems so i always gut and replace. nothing on my system is factory except the antenna!! but if you want to keep it stock right now $50 shipped to your door for an amp. i normally get the same price you see on ebay when i list them on ebay, but on here i'll do a little cheaper, i'll make about 42 bucks after shipping.

yea...you're absolutely right. I've got a nice aftermarket 4 channel amp and a few stereo's laying around...perhaps I should just install them.

anyone use the amp bypass wiring, or is it really worth it just to run all new speaker wires?

cheaper fix right now is replace the amp...plus keeping the car as close to stock in terms of interior and exterior will hold its value more than customizing the vehicle to your personal taste...the sound system can't be that terrible after all it was a $40K car when new two decades ago.

you are always telling people on here to leave their cars stock, value??? what :q:q:q:qing value? yeah i agree with ratdog, keep it stock so if you decide to sell it maybe you can get 2 grand, god forbid a nice custom stereo will totally destroy the value of the car lol.

its your car man, do whatever you want to the stereo, but if you go aftermarket, do not use the factory telephone gauge wires they installed for the stereo, 40 grand like that is supposed to mean anything? even cars that are 80 grand new have sloppy areas and cut corners, just run all new wire the factory wiring is a joke.

+1

its your car, obesely where not made of money. otherwise you would have 10 mk Viii's just to look at.

heres why i think that the stock system is "bad"

you have a cellular phone in your center console that you cant use. you have a CD changer in the truck that no one can repair. ive gone threw a ton of CD changers and most of them last for a week if even that. 2 the radio is out dated, and most people have squeals and all kinds of noises coming from you stock system. now the stock system dose have a nice bass to it, nothing to brag about. but it was a Great system.... 20 years ago... most of your connections are crap by now from age.

i would take out the whole system and do a total rewire, with new amps and speakers. take it somewhere to have it done if you cant do it. :q:q:q:q i know i cant

you have your preference I have mine...I merely suggested that it will be much cheaper to exchange the amp at this time then rip everything out and rewire....just as you suggested to rip everything out and change...in the long run ie. 10 to 20 years these vehicles will be worth more money in cosmetic stock form than personalized form. Now I am a proponet of using these cars and in no stretch am I having my car sit hoping it increases in value...however from watching car shows/auctions the more original intregrity a vehicle has equates to a higher value.

i cant argue that if he just needs to get tunes cheap for now i would replace the amp with another stock one. but i only suggested ripping it out because it sounds like thats what he would rather do, i know i hate wiring the whole car too it blows, but if you have a whole weekend to piss away why not. i see alot of cars worth lots of money, but i cant see the mark VIII ever really being a high dollar collectible, maybe in 50 years, but i'll hopefully be long gone by then!

yep, the big factor for me was that i dont have time. i just dont have any free time on the weekends. and ive got school 5 days for 8 hours.... some time this summer im going to rip out the whole audio system and rewire it with new speakers and amps.

if you need your radio right now, (like me) then a stock amp is the way to go.

Hey, I just bought a car that cost 40 grand new for $3500 at just over ten years old....lol last thing I'm worried about is value on my car.

I'm also heavily pro-modifying in tasteful ways...tasteful audio systems and performance mods are what I enjoy.

I'm going to improve the whole system...

but in the short time I have to agree it'll be a ton easier to just swap the amp, which I'm gonna do. I don't want to spring the cash for one just yet...I've got to do too many other things on the car first b4 I play with the stereo

always run new on a markviii. the stock speaker wire is what 18 gauge? not to mention the right and left side "woofers" are tied in series. every time someone tries using the factory wiring there is nothing but problems

thought i'd update this thread...

I finally got absolutely disgusted at the factory radio, having the left speakers non-op, and lack of a jack for an mp3 player, so I grabbed my old alpine radio off the shelf in the garage and took it to my favorite shop to get installed....(didn't have the ford radio removal tool and I was too lazy to install it myself)...

I told the guy I believe my factory jbl amp is blown, and asked him to bypass it....he was skeptical...

he installed my alpine, and didn't bypass the jbl amps. I was blown away happy. The JBL amps were fine, and it was the left channel in my factory stereo that was blown.

I'm now running my alpine radio through the factory jbl amps and speakers (not using the cd changer, opted instead to hook my changer port up on my alpine to an external mp3 cable)....and it seriously rocks.

I didn't change out any factory wiring for the speakers or anything else and the system is one of the best sounding systems I've ever heard for a near stock setup (all but the radio)...

anyhow just an update for others reading this with future stereo problems/questions.

sounds like a bad ground to me. its either in the head unit or in the amps. you can try a ground loop isolator to get rid of the noise but all in all. if it were me. i do not think i would keep one part of the factory stereo system.

2nd day, no sound output at all...I suspect my alpine blew the jbl amps out....:(

I think I'm seeing now why everyone says the same thing...get rid of all the stock junk.
