My $350 Mark Fix It Up Thread

Today I spent time looking at the the Gen 2 door panels. I believe I have the wiring figured out. Tomorrow I am going to figure out the Gen 2 rear view mirrors and isolate the wires that turn on the puddle lights, and the blinkers.

Door Panel Rewire

Today I spent the day planning how I was going to wire the Gen 2 door panel. After studying both door panels, Lincoln maintains the wiring color code, from Gen 1 to Gen 2. What I did was cut off the connector for the power window on the Gen 1 first.

I then put crimp connectors on the end of all of the wires.

I then cut off the wires from the end of the brown connector on the Gen 2 door panel, and crimp connected them as well.

The door locks are the same. The wires are color coded the same between both Gen's, so they to just need to be matched.

The door lights are also the same. The connections are in different parts of the door panel. On the Gen 1, The door light connector is closest to the center bottom of the door panel.

I cut the wire from the bottom of the gen 1 panel for the door light, and used the connector to plug into the female connector on the door, and splice the other end to the gen 2 door panel.

Overall, it is not very hard to do, just think it out thoroughly before you make your cuts. :D

If the leather on your gen 2 door panel peeling back, the adhesive has evaporated. I hate this, because it looks awful with the window down.

I went to Lowes, got a can of Loctite adhesive spray, six clamps, and two stir sticks.

I sprayed the back side of the leather, and the the plastic part of the door panel with a medium coat of the adhesive spray. To get a strong permanent bond let the adhesive tack up for about 10 minutes.

I then used the clamps and stir sticks to help hold the two together. I would hold them together for about an hour. That just me though.

After the pieces have bonded, you're ready to put the door panel back on the car. No more eye sore. :)

Gregg, that's lookin fabulous dude, great work, I can't wait to redo mine the same way, only I'm sticking with the blue.

Sure hope I can find somewhere to mix vinyl paint in my color, I think that'll be the only real challenge

the carpet in the car I got from you is in excelent shape, once cleaned I'll use it. And I can use all the leather from both back seats to recover a gen2 rear seat:upper

Wow Gman, this looked like allot of work, but im sure its worth it.
NoLimit, thats got to be the best lookin 2 tone i've ever seen in a Mark, looks great.

Quick question sort of on/off topic.....will Continental rear upper seats work in the Mark? Mine is in rough condition,I saw a couple nice ones at the junk yard.

Thanks for doing this thread, Gman! I'm learning soooo much just following your progress.
The door panel dead adhesive ugly that you took care of above is something I gotta do on my 96, too. Driving me nuts, and now I know how to fix it. :)

The Mark's looking great!

It's been a while since I last updated. Here's the car as it looks now. A big difference than when I first got it. I still have a few little minor things to do, but not much. This project consisted of lots of mini projects. Just to recap, complete front end rebuild, heater core replacement (nothing wrong with the blend door), Gen 2 EATC face on a Gen 1 EATC. Complete stereo rewire. Ready for Amp install. JVC single din navigation with Bluetooth, XM Radio, and Ipod Connection.
